Lined up

The spring drop of Preen's diffusion line, Preen Line, saw huge success, with the fountain dress selling out in 24 hours on Net-a-Porter. I was on La Garconne today and noticed that some new pieces from Preen Line were just added, and I'm kind of love with everything (they got pretty zipper-happy on us, but in a good way). This print from their Fall 09 collection was reworked into a few tops and a dress which all look pretty amazing. Preen founders Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi did an amazing job at translating their main collection into everyday wear, and I'm hoping that rumors they will eventually show the line at London Fashion Week are true.

Walking on clouds

A few weeks ago, my friend Leila asked for our expertise on acceptable sandals to wear in this concrete jungle. NYC has a tendency to kill your feet and ruin your shoes, not to mention leave any exposed skin subject to whatever is in the grimy streets. I figured it's too late in the season to do a full on roundup for Leila, but here's one suggestion I can't review until I get my pair, but they look like a pretty good bet, at least in terms of comfort and cost. Made from carpet fiber that's spun into rope, Gurkee sandals seem like a great alternative to thonged rubber flip-flops or the ubiquitous gladiator. I discovered these at Opening Ceremony, where there are limited colors available, but you can find them here and here as well.

Burn Out

The infamous Acne shoes will not get a third appearance on this here blog, but I'll tell you they are now available for purchase and I wish I had the dough to drop on them. There's also some other really sick pieces up in the shop taking Acne into some interesting territory comprised of bats, crosses, and Saints. Killer!

Free spirited

Seeing as we are on the way into August, and it's JUST starting to get uncomfortably warm around these parts, I'm not yet counting the days to fall. However, coming across this Vogue editorial shot by Hans Feurer and Helmut Newton a whopping 26 years ago (July 1983 to be exact) does make me look forward to chilly temps, just a little. The story explored volume, layers, and a free spirit contrasted with polished, more "conservative" elements. The choice of designers was stellar ranging from Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto, to one the stars of the 80s, Azzedine Alaïa. It's crazy to think this was from a quarter of a century ago and it seems more relevant than ever to me.

Infinity's Beginning

In March, I learned about the promising new line from the folks behind Rockers NYC called God's Prey. It makes total sense that Meghan and Sean's first collection, fall's Night Marchers, will be sold at Welcome Hunters, where it will be right at home along other forward-thinking street fashion designers like KTZ, Daniel Palillo, and Ground Zero. For spring 2010's Infinity's Beginning, they focused on further developing a cohesive platform for God's Prey's ascension into the world of fashion. This is a wearable soundtrack of cosmic doom in an epic palette of underwater blues, black&white and purple haze. That scrawly line print WILL find its way into my closet and I'm always down for loose tops and long tanks. So fresh to death- keep it coming guys!

See more of the range on God's Prey's blog!

Drop The Zero

Zero Zipper dress from Pixie Market

Stop in the name of all which does not suck

A couple weeks ago, I attended my friend's party at her work's new showroom. It was one of the sweatiest shindigs I've been to in awhile, but it was good times all around. Forgetting my camera, as I often do, I bugged my girl Jess to get a photo of these awesome kids. I appreciated the girl's taste in pop culture (Yoda + Beavis and Butt-head), plus she had an Obesity and Speed sticker on the back of her vest!

On the Fringe

I was in the Irregular Choice store last week visiting my girl Laura, and I saw these beauties in the window. The wedges are handpainted with scenes from paradise, and the leather fringe is obviously pretty epic.

Cosmic shoulder

I am so into this dress from Topshop- the futuristic vibe is subtle enough where you don't look like you are going to a Star Trek convention. I saw it at the store in Soho and it looks adorable in person, not to mention perfect for the fall weather.

Vegas Baby

It's that time of year folks- MARKET! This ultimately means I am traveling like crazy and missing all of the amazing sample sales and fun summer parties that Amanda keeps posting :) This week, I will be in Las Vegas for Compass at the Alexis Park hotel. If you are attending, please stop by and say HI- I'll be holding the fort down at Fred Perry.

Pics from January Compass show

I bet you'd have a good time

I'm a pretty big Proenza Schouler fan, so I'm hoping I can make it to this sale this week. Starting tomorrow in their Soho studio, the label will have select pieces from their Spring '09 line up for grabs (yeah literally, there prob. will be grabbing).

Wed, July 29-Fri, July 31; 9am-6pm; 495 Broadway, 8th floor, (between Broome and Spring streets); 212.343.1360

Thursday I have to choose as there's two great events going on. Designer Christian Joy, known for her amazing one-of-a-kind creations for Karen O, will be hosting a little shindig with her husband down at TG-170. They will be selling artwork, as well as tees, dresses and scarves.

WHEN I WANT YOU IN THE NIGHT
Christian Joy and Jason Grisell
July 30, 7-9pm @ TG-170

Also on Thursday, Paper Mag, Roxy, and local surf shop Mollusk (yep, we have a surf shop in Brooklyn) are throwing a block party for the screening of Dear and Yonder, a surf movie featuring a dynamic cast of ladies. There will also be a live performance by Amanda Blank (Philly!!) with Devlin & Darko (Bmore!!!). It's all going down on Thursday from 7-10pm at Secret Project Robot Art Space in Williamsburg.

We hope to see some of you locals around this week!

Within my reach

Earlier this year, you folks got a peek at some of the designer collaborations for Payless that went down the runway for Fall 09. The general consensus was along the lines of "These are PAYless? SHUT UP!!" These Alice + Olivia boots were used in her fall presentation but this is the first I'm seeing of them so I'm pretty damn stoked. The "Madison" is a black leather biker-inspired wedge boot with strappy details and silver metallic buckles (the top image I scanned from Nylon Aug '09 shows two buckles, but the bottom images are from the A+O presentation/lookbook and show four). They will retail for $45-50 and can't drop soon enough. Maybe once I have these on my feet, I'll forget all about Chlöe Sevigny's expensive buckled boots.

The eyes don't lie

Acne is slowly but surely filling up their online shop with all the tasty fall 09 gear. I admittedly check quite often actually, as I'm waiting to see the plastic pants and platform moon shoes pop up to tempt me to no end. On the more practical side of personal Acne wants are these stretchy Jasmine trousers in Bouclé print that I can see going with so much in my wardrobe. "Stretch" is the key word as I need plenty of that once the holidays roll around.

You nailed it

I was in Urban the other day and saw this bowl of giant nails that caught my eye. I have no idea what they're meant for, although I imagine they'd look cool as a centerpiece (like the way fancy people have bowls of glass marbles and what not sitting around for decoration). I bought one and immediately grabbed some spare leather cord I had at home to make a necklace out of it. Most people that see it say something like "woah, be careful with that thing!" which I sort of expected seeing as it's a giant nail. The shirt is by Slow and Steady Wins the Race and I was psyched to find it on super duper sale at Urban since I almost bought it at full price last month.

The shape of things to come

As exhausted as I was by the end of the workday on Friday, I still found the energy to drop by the Ideeën sample sale. I found so much great stuff but wisely edited it down to two based on enough reasons in my head why I needed them: a dope dress I might wear to a friend's wedding, and these drapey shorts because I could use more shorts that aren't made of denim. I wore them today and they are seriously the most comfortable bottoms I own now (I'm burnt from surfing yesterday so that's why I look so orange).

The giant back pockets are what sold me.

These are another pair of ebayed boots that arrived last week. The fabric reminds me of scuba gear.

Brass wings

It's kind of coincidental that I found this bracelet tonight because me and my friends were riding through our hood today talking about weirdness like what birds say to each other. Somehow that led to corny bat jokes like "What did one bat say to the other bat?.....Let's HANG out!" Lame, I know, but that was the point. I love bats and have been searching for the perfect piece of bat jewelry for some time now. If I had the kind of money to drop on this bat bracelet by Delfina Delettrez, I would in a heartbeat.

Never enough

I just got back from a long day at Long Beach (NY) trying to surf for the first time! I knew it would be hard, but it was especially impossible because there was a huge swell. I'm psyched though to have a new hobby to conquer- I can't wait to go again. Since I'm in no shape to be photographed at the moment and need some help myself getting dressed tonight, I thought I'd unload some of my July streetstyle folder on you guys. Enjoy!

Ideeën Sample Sale

There's a ton of good sample sales in my neck of the woods happening this weekend. One of them I hope to make it to is local up-and-comer Ideeën's sample sale. Goods seem like they will be up for grabs on the cheap like dresses for $30, tops for $20, and pants and skirts for $50. It starts this evening from 5-9pm, and also tomorrow from noon-8pm.

A fistful of treasures

Sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder started their jewelry label Dannijo just last year in NYC. They closed their boutique in Florida a few years ago to move to the big city and pursue jewelry design. It's pretty cool to see how two very different personalities come together- one sister is inspired by bohemian and tribal aesthetics while the other gravitates more towards old Hollywood glam. Whatever their into, it's working, because I'm digging their use of color, metals, and rocks and I see these ladies going far in this biz!

Death defying

Vice has been banging out some interesting fashion stories lately. I'm a fan of the latest featuring hooded temptresses (and some dudes) flirting with death in some sick gear. Check out the rest here.

Giant steps are what you take

I'm sure many of you share the same utter jealousy as I that Alexa Chung got her feet in these moon shoes before the rest of us. She wore the "Atacoma" platforms on her show last week and they were stunners on her dainty little frame. The shoes are not yet up on Acne's online store, but I imagine they will be soon along with more from the epic fall line...MTV's Buzzworthy blog reveals they will be about $480. Start saving kiddies!!

Apartment Berlin

Anyone who rolls with yours truly probably had to hear me wishfully talking about a trip to Berlin this past spring- flights got as low as $380 roundtrip from NYC! I thought I would make it...but I did not. Last year I teased myself with 1.5 days in the metropolis and managed to hit up some really dope shops. One of my faves was Apartment, not far from Alexanderplatz. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you are in on some secret as you make your way across a blank white gallery space to a small spiral staircase that leads you into the shop. I'm not sure when I'll make it back to this dream cave, but in the meantime, they have put up some of their stock online for purchase, including a section called "Cash" filled with handpicked 2nd season and 2nd hand wares- definitely worth a peek.

Roll with It

Christian Louboutin "Rollerball" loafers for pre-order at Saks.

Another one bites the dust

Coming across Veronique Branquinho was like finding that one shell good enough to take home from the beach. Maybe I'm reminded of that feeling because of the stunning prints of sunsets, the ocean, and other geological wonders adorning pieces in this spring collection. I mean, aren't these stunning?? It figures that just as I'm discovering the 11 year-old Belgian label, I also learn that it's folding. The Fall 09 season was their last, so there's probably a pretty amazing sale going on at their flagship store in Antwerp...if you happen to be anywhere near there.

CAPSULE Wrap-Up

So I am just wrapping up the second day of Capsule- good times! Fortunately, I was pretty busy in my booth so I didn't have time to snap many pictures. Spring 2010 is looking pretty casual, yet sexy, for the boys! There wasn't very many women's lines as this is predominantly a men's show. Stay tuned- next week is Vegas!

Not-so-reformed club kid

My latest obsession (if you didn't pick that up from this post) is tracking down cheap uglyish platform boots on ebay, although my ultimate dream would be these KTZ kicks I missed out on. I scored these clunky things below for a bank-breaking five bucks. They are actually not too far off from these Jil Sander boots I've been eyeing (ok mine are obvs. so 1998).

Karen Walker SALE

Estile is having a huge sale on Karen Walker sunglasses. Get 'em before they are gone! Here is the Is Mental invite for Estile. Happy Shopping!

*Just thought I'd point out that Estile is Australia-based so it's different than other sample sale sites like Gilt Groupe and HauteLook. Some of the previous sales on the site included designers like Josh Goot, LIFEwithBIRD, and The Cassette Society.

Specks

After picking up my giant dalmation jasper ring a few weeks ago, I've had a craving for more items of the marble/swirly oil print variety. In my book, it's more often than not "go big or go home", so here's what I'm after!

Go Burfitt!

Burfitt has become one of my fave go-to brands out there for casual everyday looks since laying my eyes upon their candy-coated spring 08 lookbook (one of my fave lookbooks ever). I was stoked to score this Burfitt bag last year at the insanity that was the Opening Ceremony sample sale, and I'm eager to add more of their pieces to my wardrobe. Maybe late on this, but I just discovered that Burfitt now has their own online store with very well-styled shots and a sale section, so it's only a matter of time before I'm rocking more of their gear.

Knight Rider

So I decided to be a nerd and enter this Topshop/Chictopia bike style contest. I figured, "why not?" since I'm on my bike a lot anyway. My friend Sharon lent me her amazing skills to get this photo last night. I'm sort of new to this whole Chictopia thing, but apparently the more "chic points" I acquire, it helps my chances to win. So if you are a Chictopian, it would be so rad if you'd become a fan and leave a comment!! Thanks dudes.

Capsule

This Monday and Tuesday(20th & 21st), the Capsule Tradeshow will be showcasing Men's SS 2010 clothing and accessories from such brands as April 77, Wood Wood, Super, and Springcourt. I will be holding down the fort at the Fred Perry booth- stop by and say HI!
To kick off the show, Superfuture and Capsule have joined forces to organize a neighborhood shopping event in the LES. Alife, Pixie Market, Coat of Arms, Assembly and In god we Trust are just a few of the spots offering discounts and promotions. See the full list of participants below.

Warm Leatherette

Bebe is not a store I ever go in honestly because most of their clothes make my eyes bleed. Randomly I ended up on their site today and found these transformer half leather/half denim jeans due in their stores this fall. They are potentially amazing!?

The genius hands of RosenMunns

Now here's a rad concept that turned out pretty awesome. San Francisco-based designer duo RosenMunns created a one-of-a-kind oversized sweatshirt dress, and then a lightbulb went off. They decided the garment wasn't complete, so they got in touch with Anica in collaboration with another local boutique, Light Vision, and hosted a B.Y.O.P. collaborative fashion party (that's bring your own pin) where friends and guests contributed to the finished product.

The end result, complete with a monsoon of pins, is up for grabs in Light Vision's shop.

Seeing this piece made me curious of what RosenMunns was up to for fall. A see-through top and pants are on the menu, along with nipple ring tees (for those of us that don't want to get the real thing pierced?). But back to the pants- I'm intrigued by the concept that instantly brings to mind Comme des Garçons Fall 07 range with the 3D hand details. RosenMunns certainly have clever minds and seeing how different their fall line was from their spring line of sweatshirt tops and pants, I can hardly wait to see what's next.

Esquivel Shoes trunk show

My friend let me know about a trunk show happening in her showroom Friday and Saturday for Esquivel shoes. Each pair from the company is hand-crafted in California and there's no doubt about it, these shoes are made for a lifetime. The designs are classic and all the styles are unisex and made to order at the sale- I see a lot of boots I would love to have in my wardrobe. Rad by Rad Hourani

After only four RTW collections, trend-loathing designer Rad Hourani manages to pack the house for his architecturally androgynous collections and is one of the most buzzed about labels in the industry these days. I personally would feel like a million dollars rocking any of his fall 09 looks head to toe (two of my faves below), so I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation of his new diffusion line Rad by Rad Hourani. The designer talks a lot about the line between "art and commerce" saying the label will be "for the people who already enjoy my aesthetic, but can't afford it." Sounds perfect...I can't wait!

Girl Crush!

British model/TV personality/host Alexa Chung's new show "It's On with Alexa Chung" is on every day at noon (EST) on MTV. She is hiliarious and I love her laid back, nerdy, casual sense of fashion- right up my alley. Mixing interviews, music acts and her own take on current events, this show is the best thing to happen to MTV since they stopped playing music videos.

Hey look, I'm a bat!

You know what? I'm getting sick of pants. I just want to wear this huge batwing dress by Mundi and call it a day and then run around at night with my arms out like a bat. It's on sale right now at Welcome Hunters along with some other really sweet pieces.

Mademoiselle Yulia

I found out about Mademoiselle Yulia after seeing loads of pics of her on Japanese streetstyle sites. She's obviously a popular subject to photograph with her bright purple or blue hair and eclectic style. It's clear she's a devoted fan of out-there labels like Jeremy Scott and KTZ, and accessorizes nearly every outfit with her jewelry line Giza. Besides having awesome style, a fashion column in NYLON Japan and a Honeyee blog, Yulia comes through with the dancefloor bangers as a DJ and singer. Hey Trouble & Bass, you want to bring this girl to NYC? Pretty please??

DIYed

On Sunday, Jess and I spent a few hours at the Urban Outfitters in Soho for the DIY or DIE event. It was great to see some of our favorite blogging ladies in the flesh and learn a thing or two about sewing, studding, shredding, slashing, and crocheting chains. I had a lot to learn seeing as I do not work in the fashion industry but thankfully the ladies of Six Six Sick, Nikki, Pam, Jeralyn, and Sarah made it seem super easy and I'm confident I can do a lot of this stuff on my own now!

A big thanks goes to UO for hosting such a cool event and for the complimentary rad gift bags that included among other things some yummy sparkling juice by Izze, UO nail polish (I got green!) and a sweet xeroxed how-to guide for the next rainy day. I only managed to get a few decent shots but you can see more coverage of the event over at Badlooking and Dirty Flaws.

A bunch of nuts

I sort of obsessed over these Fallon bangles back in March, and even went to Barneys to try on the top one here but didn't end up getting it, talking myself out of an expensive impulse buy. Fast forward to now and I'm just discovering that Fallon did these nuts and bolts bangles for United Bamboo's Fall 08 collection. I never really took a close look at the show, but I guess I overlooked all the industrial details because they are pretty amazing (like that metal tube situation above). Anyway, the bangles are up in Refinery29 Shops on sale and probably won't be around too much longer- pick one up in rose gold, silver, or antique brass. I want them ALL.

Bless your sole

I was in the neighborhood yesterday, so I thought I'd hit up Project No. 8 since I had never been there before. Their online store is still in the works, so I figured it was worth the trip to check out some of the obscure and up-and-coming brands they carry. The Margiela "collectors" mirrored heels were in the window and I saw a lot of unique pieces inside that reminded me of a boutique you might find in Berlin (a lot of the stock is 30% off right now btw).

The only thing I tried on were these Bless puff sandals that I've never seen anywhere before. I almost bought the gray but painfully had to leave without them this time around due to "lack of funds." Man that hurt.

Bare bones

I had an epic day today involving the DIY or DIY event at Urban (more on that later), stuffing my face, a friend's pool party at the Thompson, and back to the 'burg to eat tacos and people watch. Since I knew I was going to be on my bike a lot, I dressed more for comfort. This is the second day in a row I wore my new cut-out pants I snagged from Topshop. I am so in love with them and it's totally worth whatever bizarre tan I get as a result this summer.

Wear with care

White shoes are hard to wear because they are just so damn easy to dirty up. When you live in a city, especially, all it takes is walking out the door and stepping in a nuclear sludge puddle. Regardless, there's just something so refreshing and happy about bright white shoes at the base of an outfit. I found these styles by Zucca that I'm all googly-eyed over at Japanese webstore, Humor. Creatures of Comfort + Opening Ceremony carry some great Zucca dresses and what not, but they NEED to carrying more of their shoe line!!

Creative construction

In a visual ode to one of my fave blogs, Fashematics, (Dusty Dress posted her faves from it today) here is an epic Issey Miyake jacket in all it's folded glory. I was going to throw some window blinds in there too, but the Michelin man is way more fun.

Plus they offer free shipping to the US which is pretty awesome! I got an email today that their new season is trickling in and some dope pieces are available for pre-order now. I have been waiting years for my friend Lauren Jones to launch her own clothing line, and that day has finally come! (Um, yes Lauren i remember your amazing leggings!) Using only organic or surplus fabrics, her designs are simple, yet sexy and eco friendly. She also makes her own jewelry and knitwear- a true fashion Jane of all trades! Here is my brief interview with Mrs. Jones:

Is Mental: I see that you just launched on Etsy, where else can we find your pieces?
Lauren Jones: So far, Etsy is the only place I am selling online. I have owned my website for the past 2 years and fully intend to sell stuff on there and keep an archive, but I got distracted by Etsy. Because it is awesome. In real life, I sell at Edge of Urge in Wilmington, NC (note: She has other stores in the works, we will keep you posted).

IM: Inspiration for your designs? They all seem so comfortable, yet sexy...great for everyday)
LJ: My inspiration comes from everywhere! I am really inspired by concepts and ideas because they allow for more personal interpretation than literal inspiration. I love for things to be smart, clean, and well designed. This applies to construction, color and fabric choice. I like eliminating seams and unnecessary branding, and I only work with organic or surplus fabrics. I want whomever buys my clothes to wear them forever, not just for one season. I design them to be versatile and enhance (and be enhanced by) the person who wears it.

IM: Anything else in the works? Outerwear? More knits? etc?
LJ: I only recently began wearing dresses and I am really into designing them right now, so I am willing to bet that you will see more of those from me. Also, I got a knitting machine several months ago and I am figuring out new things on it almost everyday. It is an incredible machine! I recently quit my job as a knitwear designer for Urban Outfitters, so my head is still in that game as well. Also, I have gotten a lot of requests to do some menswear items. I have sold my things at a few Markets and I get such an overwhelming interest from boys. They come over to the booth and look at stuff, then bring their girlfriends back with them!

Everything is a work in progress

NY Mag's The Cut bumped into none other then Daphne Guinness on the street for their Video Look Series this week. No surprise- she looks amazing and is so modest about her style saying "I thought I was invisible today. I mean I just put on clothes in the morning and hope for the best. I always think I look so normal." I think she could get dressed with her eyes closed and still manage to kill it! Daphne talks about her current projects including a video, a metal glove (!!), and "a scent", by which she is referring to the collab with CDG due out in the fall (Jen is all over this one).

Naked ladies

I am expecting to get lots of google hits from the title of this post but no porn here guys, just weird clothes!! Can you just picture people's eyeballs popping out of their faces and moms covering their children's eyes when someone walks by in this?! I have been thinking about the picasso-esque print since I first saw it in Bernhard Willhelm's spring show because it is just so amazing...especially the guy's reaction upon seeing a human train.

While I'm on the topic of naked people, I think these vermeil upside-down woman earrings from Arielle de Pinto are pretty rad as well. The fact that they look like some possessed ancient relic makes them even better.

Undisputed

If the Fall 2009 Couture shows were a wrestling showdown, then Givenchy would be the world heavyweight champion in every sense of the word. The jewelry blows me away, and I'm not usually fond of this much gold. I am in love with the gradient dress that looks like it's going up in flames from the bottom.

Ugly is the new black

With all the killer platform wedge boots both lighting up and boring my eyes lately, I thought I'd see what sort of 90s predecessors and weird styles I could dig up on ebay. If you share the same attraction to questionable shoes as I do, then you might be in luck (these are all size 6.5 for some reason). Use your imagination people- these could be the start of a rad outfit!

Bring it back

Oozing with hard-edged sex appeal, Kai Kühne's spring presentation in Berlin marked his triumphant return to the homeland, after showing in NYC since the label's runway debut in 2006. The zombie/vampire glass eyes reminded me of Ann-Sofie Back's fall show, except that Kai's centered more around architectural glamour than horror movie homages. It was definitely one of the best-styled shows of the week, with the sharply tailored outfits topped off with some delicious sculptural jewelry courtesy of Patricia Von Musulin.

Zoo Magazine No 23: Stardust

Devon Aoki has always been one of my favorite models so I'm thrilled to see her on one of the covers for Zoo mag's 23rd issue...and my girl Daul Kim is in this one too. The styling is on point and I'm always a sucker for hair-tossing ladies, so I definitely plan on picking this issue up.

Smoke Me

Even though it's been out for a bit, let it be known Chris Habana's "Smoking Lips" necklace is still doing it for me...

Aqua net and cotton candy

If you grew up near the east coast of America, spending time hanging out on the boardwalk, then you'll appreciate this one. This 1994 documentary shot in Wildwood, NJ in '92 by Carol Weaks/Cassidy and Ruth Leitman features teenagers talking about "hookin up", getting in fights and waiting for calls by the payphones. I had to laugh thinking that a great deal of the fashion is "current" again and probably at topshop and urban outfitters right now. The payphone chick is basically wearing this A. Wang top.

Ebay trolling

I'd get it all if I could. At least my taste isn't THAT expensive right now. I'm looking at a lot of boots for fall, small cross body bags I can wear on my bike, and sunglasses...always looking at sunglasses.

Dries Van Noten pumps

Issey Miyake pleated pants

Courreges iridescent sunglasses

Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons boots

Margiela bag

Mane ideas

On a recent trip to probably the best magazine shop in Manhattan, Around the World, I must have spent an hour deciding what to take home. That time around, I went with the Spring 09 bible, In Beauty, that has pics of hair and makeup from nearly every show in NY, London, Milan, Paris, and Tokyo. It's really been a great resource thus far for makeup inspiration, but I think I've just been too lazy to try any crazy hairstyles yet. Maybe I can attempt a few of these- anyone know where to get giant hair pins!?

Cold Shoulder

UO sent out an email linking to a first look at early fall styles and a chance to pre-order some of the goods. I'm very much considering this Silence & Noise lightweight cutout cardigan...would be more than perfect for breezy summer nights dancing on rooftops (much like last night).

Stars and Stripes

Happy Independence Day U-S-of-A!! I just had to share this pic my friend took of me last night in front of a liquor store window display in Greenpoint (posing like Obama). There's no place like Brooklyn, that's for sure.

Double take

There's definitely been an abundance of Ann Demeulemeester "inspired" lace up sandals + boots over the course of this season but unfortunately the actual Ann D booties are all sold out now. This version I just found at Free People is the closest I've seen to the real thing yet at around $200. I'm sure they will go fast...just sayin.

O+S, What!

Wednesday night, me and some friends rolled to the opening party for the Obesity and Speed pop-up shop at Earnest Sewn. There was a good turnout of folks there to support Lyz and Josh and scope the pieces up for sale. I was reallly into the whole shopping experience, complete with giant posters, a static-filled tv reminiscent of Poltergeist, and a table of zines and stickers (the sticker went right on my bike).

The focus in the room though was definitely the satanic cross mirror- nice touch!

I scanned in a few spreads from the zine to show you some of the designs offered in the shop. I ended up getting the skull tank (second image down), but will probably end up going back for more!

The O+S pop-up is at Earnest Sewn on 821 Washington St. in the Meatpacking District. You have till September to stop by and check it out!

Hard as Nails

Dominic Jones decked out Alice Dellal, Lizzy Jagger, and Emma Chitty in his bad ass jewelry for his new look book. Um, gloves with metallic nails? Yes please.

Cheap Monday SS10

On Monday night, it was raining denim in Sweden's capital. Cheap Monday took us into a grunge-infested, almost apocalyptic world for spring. This is new head designer, Ann-Sofie Back's first collection for the brand. Although having just joined Cheap Monday in May, this is only a teaser hinting at the direction she will eventually take for her first full collection for the brand, which won't be until spring/summer 2011. I have a feeling by then, we'll be on the edge of our seats, but I'm already analyzing each look trying to figure out what Ann may have touched.

Overall, I wouldn't exactly call this collection polished or their most innovative, but it still embodies what I love about Cheap Monday- accessible, casual and cool- and I know Ann will push it even further.

Leather and layers

With fashion weeks in Paris, Stockholm and Berlin all happening in recent days, there's been quite an overwhelming pool of stylish folks showing up on all the street snap sites. That and of course Japan which is always killing it! After seeing the fist chick below, I decided I too need a long sheer button-up asap.

The great pyramids

I like that this ring creates the illusion that the arrows are chillin on your finger by themselves. I would never want to take this thing off! It's available in oxidized silver or gold plated from Liam of York.

Having a facetasm

On the top of my list of things I want to do in the very NEAR future is go to Tokyo. I've been obsessed with the city since I was a teen- the culture, the people, the cute everything, the graphics, the food, and last but not least THE FASHION. There are so many brands only distributed in Japan that most of us will never get our hands on, let alone have even heard of. One of these labels is the epicly named Facetasm. It's the perfect word too to describe what I would experience walking through Tokyo and what I'm experiencing looking at their AW08 collection of photoprint madness and more.
