Time will tell

Now that Thanksgiving is over in the states, our minds are instantly programmed to think "shop shop SHOP!" It's pretty annoying eh? Well let me try to help with just one suggestion for a gift this year: a watch. A watch? Yeah, I mean regardless of the fact that we all get the time from our cellphones these days, it hasn't lost it's popularity as a statement accessory. Designer Agni Tilla struggled to find interesting, affordable watches for her everyday wardrobe, so she founded May28th last year. Each of the limited edition watches are named after a time, like one of my favorites, 08:14AM. Besides the fact that there is guaranteed to be one for everyone's tastes, they are perfectly gift-priced at $39 with free shipping....yeaaaah boi!

Time after time

Even though I have a distorted concept of time, I rarely leave the house without the classic Casio hugging my wrist. Lately I've been building on my love of watches with other pieces that use or are inspired by watch parts. It started with the Margiela watch face ring I scooped from Yoox last year. Then during the W29 Showroom sale a few weeks ago, I got a dope bracelet by Iosselliani that's part watchband, part sparkle. I also found a vintage watch ring in the shape of a bear for 2 Euro when I was in Berlin...score! It just needs a new battery.

Perfect Timing

Damn my tastes have gotten expensive! I mean somewhat. Not having the means keeps me grounded though. A designer watch? I mean I love my $40 Casio to death (literally, I will wear it till it dies), but if the time were now to invest in a nice timepiece, I'd go for one of these Balenciaga watches. It represents everything I love about timeless (har har) design: classic meets modern meets...yum?

Time to go

I dream of owning a Zucca watch one day. For those not familiar, Zucca (the Japanese clothing label designed by Akira Onozuka) started making watches under the name CABANE de ZUCCa in 1996 with reputable watch company Seiko. I recently went digging through their archives to pick out my favorites which was not an easy task! If you appreciate good branding and clever design, I definitely recommend checking out all the fantastic packaging too, which is pictured on the site with each watch.

I gotta say the alligator watch from the '98 Safari Zoo collection trumps them all!

Only time will tell

I was always envious of Tania's icon watch and considered getting one for myself too for the longest time. However, I've been itching lately to find a white watch that's very simplified and modern. I like the white one from Swatch's color codes collection, but I stopped into the Moma store the other day to look around and my eye went right to this hexagon watch by & design (same folks who did the icon watch). I don't know what it is about six-sided shapes in my life lately!

How they wear it

Swatch goes down in history as the coolest watch brand of all time. Ebay is filled with endless varieties and here they are beyond their mid twenties mark still keeping up with the Joneses. Maybe you heard about their newest "Colour Codes" collection where they decided to go back to their roots and create 10 shiny and 10 matte solid colorways to feast on. I dig all the colors, but especially the more muted ones and the white! To help promote these juicy plastic beauties, they challenged a bunch of "uber cool glossies" to use their skills in a way that will make us want to run out and buy a Swatch. You can go vote for your favorite shoot here and they'll be picking 100 folks who voted for the winner to receive a free watch (which means, go vote for whoever is winning, duh, although that would be NYLON and they aren't my top pick). My favorites are below... I really wish they had larger views of the spreads!

Dazed & Confused

There's also a Facebook component to this little campaign (of course!) where you can submit a picture of yourself rocking the Swatch. Although it's more work than just voting for a magazine, if you do win, your efforts will be rewarded with the whole collection- that's 20 watches man!!

Neon baby

I had a translucent sky blue Baby-G Casio watch I wore every day when I was in highschool. I never took it off, not even at track & field practice, and the color got all bleached out by the sun. Nowadays, if I wear a watch at all, I mainly wear my classic digital silver casio watch, but I'm feeling the urge to brighten things up with one of these neon pink or yellow Baby-G's. There are tons of other colors (white is great too) you can find on Amazon for cheap.

Freestyle

I just got back from a much-needed vacation in Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington, NC. My boyfriend grew up there, living the laid-back surfer lifestyle at the beach. While down south, I was lucky to catch a lot of rays brah. The ocean was amazing, and even more amazing this awesome watch John surprised me with when I came out of the water. The classic Shark Freestyle watch is back and I'm psyched to own one! There are a lot of radical colorways available and these things can take a beating so scoop one up if you're feelin it.

In4mation x G-Shock

Hawaii-based label In4mation combined creative energies with Casio to produce this limited edition G-Shock watch inspired by their turquoise coastline and cloudless skies. I stand behind G-Shocks and can attest to their quality because I had one that held up great all through highschool, even through all the sweaty soccer practices. My boyfriend has a white one he wears that is STILL white and ticking despite the fact that we live in grimy NYC and he's on his bike all the time. Needless to say, I might consider picking up one of these tasty looking timepieces. It's available now in Hawaii, and later this month in limited quantities at such NYC locations as Reed Space and KCDC as well as a dozen other retailers nationwide.
