To the touch

When I see something that reminds me of a whole string of things at once, it probably equals two thumbs up from yours truly. Danish designer Bibi Ghost came up with the "flurry bag" I saw on Styleserver and I want it in my hands like yesterday. Flurries, yes, but I imagine it to feel like a cross between bird feathers and wallpaper at my fingertips. White on cream and white- I can picture it perfectly!

Any designer whos aesthetic even remotely reminds me of Margiela gets my attention. Design duo Vilsbøl de Arce out of Denmark undeniably live in the world of avant-garde fashion, favoring an often dark palette to highlight dramatic silhouettes and bodysuits with huge padded shoulders (seen recently at Apartment in Berlin). The bodysuits from their fall line bear a striking resemblance to Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids, except they've grown up, moved far away from Rainbow Land, shed their color-coordinated outfits, and opted for black instead! To be fair, there were colored versions of these too for their spring range, but I like the black better (and it fits better with my Rainbow-Brite-all-grown-up metaphor).







The rest of their fall line was amazing too- I'm not going all Gaga on you! Also stunning are the huge pockets, meticulous draping and weaving, and cut-outs created from sharp angles that somehow still look very organic.





Vilsbøl de Arce showed their Spring 2010 collection last week in Copenhagen, and once again included some fun bodysuits. I need to get my hands on some of those slit shorts or pants- I would have liked to have seen the nude pair on a darker skinned model though. Without the contrast, you lose the detail. Tons more great shoulder shapes remind me I need to look into those portable foam pads I mentioned awhile ago.

Stærk SS09

Camilla Stærk is known for her distinctive use of leather and dark romanticism, and you can really see why in her Spring 2009 collection. Camilla is a native of Denmark and studied fashion in London, but she now calls New York home. Her collections in London marked her as "a future fashion star" in the words of British Vogue, and her work went on to be awarded Top Shop's New Generation Award three times. She now has a devoted celebrity following including Liv Tyler, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and The Raveonettes. In August, Stærk opened her first boutique in Nolita. The space reflects her Scandinavian roots—the perfect environment for her sleek designs.

Best Behavior

I love these looks from Danish design duo Best Behavior. Their concept is to create casual fashion with a focus on simple colors and unusual cuts. I like that a lot of their clothing has a tomboy attitude but still ultra feminine. It is simplicity without trying too hard, which is exactly what I need when I'm rushing out the door and have 3 seconds to decide what to wear.
