Hex

Comme des Garcons' Spring 09 range was dark, stiff, and totally mathematical with garments made of hexagonal shapes patchworked out of vinyl leather. I played soccer for 6 years when I was a teenager- never did I think I'd be swooning over non-athletic apparel that was inspired by the sport years later. Last week the hex oxfords from the collection popped up on ebay and now they will be mine! The shoes are made with loosely spun white felted wool encased in a clear plastic shell- so FUTURE. I can't wait to have these on my feet.

The freaks come out at night

When Tiffany reminded me of the drip sunglasses accessories designer Sheefun created for Ann-Sofie Back's Fall '09 horror movie-inspired show, I thought I'd try to track them down now that it's fall. No luck yet (anyone have a clue, you better tip me!), but while browsing Sheefun's site, I realized I completely overlooked the pieces she created for Ann-Sofie's Spring '09 show- all inspired by body jewelry, but reinterpreted in a new way.

My absolute favorite piece, which I now am craving as much as the drip sunnies were these gold ball clip-on barbell earrings, also used in an April '09 editorial in UK Harper's Bazaar. It's interesting to see them styled in a more "chic" way.

Mane ideas

On a recent trip to probably the best magazine shop in Manhattan, Around the World, I must have spent an hour deciding what to take home. That time around, I went with the Spring 09 bible, In Beauty, that has pics of hair and makeup from nearly every show in NY, London, Milan, Paris, and Tokyo. It's really been a great resource thus far for makeup inspiration, but I think I've just been too lazy to try any crazy hairstyles yet. Maybe I can attempt a few of these- anyone know where to get giant hair pins!?

Triangle Play

Kai-Aakmann is a name that's been floating in the back of my head for awhile. I initially discovered the brand in the back of the Eryn Brinie store in Soho and was stoked to find such innovative clothing right on Broadway. At the time, I just thought it was part of a random collaboration with Brinie, but after rediscovering the brand on the interwebs, I've learned they are part of the same company, Avista Inc, so it all makes sense now! Based in South Korea, Avista is a global fashion company that also owns BNX and Kaylee Tankus (who I talked about recently).

I'm really drawn to Kai's designs, mainly due to the unique tailoring and casual androgyny the label represents. For Summer 09, the theme was "Triangle Play" which was interpreted both literally through screenprinted graphics, and through shape & form seen in cone-shaped heels and skirts that come to a point. I'm hoping to find some of these pieces on my next trip to Eryn Brinie, which seems like it might be the only store stocking Kai-Aakmann outside of Korea.

I love you

TEAMO has been on my brain a lot lately after seeing their epic fall line, including the pointy high-shouldered jackets Susie wrote about. Some of their spring collection just hit New High (M)art and I'm immediately drawn to the grape purple vest. It would look so awesome over just about any t-shirt.

I think I was so fixated on the giant cross jewelry in the spring show that I completely missed the lucite skulls. I know skull everything has been done to death but these pieces look really fresh. I wonder if the designers were inspired by Indiana Jones.

Glittering Girl

Suvi Koponen of Supreme looks captivating wearing a glistening McQueen jumpsuit from SS09 for Vogue Italia's May issue. The idea of using a mirror in the shoot was just brilliant.

Tall Tales

I have plans of being atleast 3-5 inches taller this spring. I think these wedges will make that plan a reality.

Wild bunch

I'm so excited about this!! So remember the epic gorilla and babboon dresses from Christopher Kane's Spring 09 show?? They are amazing- that's all you need to know. Anyways, he saw how much of a hit they were and decided to do a silk t-shirt line with four different prints: the gorilla, the chimp, the baboon and the mandrille. They are due out in May and I'm all over the chimp one (pet chimps, however are not a good idea).

thanks Diane
