U Mag has been around since 2004, but I really didn't get on board with it until the past year. Every time a new issue comes out now, I keep that tab open for awhile on my browser, looking at it over and over again. This obsession comes from the perfect formula U has going on being an accessible free online magazine with amazing fashion editorials and absolutely gorgeous layouts that inspire my own work as an art director. I picked this story from this month's issue cause I loved the way the stylist worked hats into somewhat classy looks...mixed with those braids and eye makeup and I'm tempted to copy all of it BRO.

Meet me at the corner

As if Yoox wasn't already a fashion black hole where time stands still, now they've launched The Corner, a "cutting-edge selection for fashion connoisseurs." I'LL SAY. I've known about the shop for awhile, but only now have the women's collections been added. Designers like Ann Demeulemeester, Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, and Kris Van Assche get their own "corner" of virtual space in this highly-curated online shop. The selections are edgy, innovative, and architectural, so I had no problem finding several picks I'd love to own. I DIE for everything below, but especially the Margiela tabi ankle boots (he keeps making version after version of these, further driving me crazy for them).

Children of Vision

Children of Vision is a rad NZ boutique I came across earlier this summer whilst searching for TV stockists. I've been visiting their blog since in anticipation of their online store going live. Well it's here! Call me crazy, but I'm excited. They carry quite a nice assortment of hard-to-find designers from New Zealand and beyond like Trust Fun, Romance Was Born, Postweiler Hauber, Deadly Ponies, Jimmy D, Andrea Crews and a ton more. Here's a couple of my picks in the store right now, but seeing as it just launched, there should be a lot more updates in the coming weeks.

Go Burfitt!

Burfitt has become one of my fave go-to brands out there for casual everyday looks since laying my eyes upon their candy-coated spring 08 lookbook (one of my fave lookbooks ever). I was stoked to score this Burfitt bag last year at the insanity that was the Opening Ceremony sample sale, and I'm eager to add more of their pieces to my wardrobe. Maybe late on this, but I just discovered that Burfitt now has their own online store with very well-styled shots and a sale section, so it's only a matter of time before I'm rocking more of their gear.

I wrote about young Australian label I Heard They Eat Cigarettes way back in August, and I just got an email that their online store is now open for business. I'm sure they'll be adding more stuff, but right now there's some awesome leather jackets and bags up for grabs, denim, and t-shirts with mean animals on them.





I'm saving the best for last though: the "bad town heels" and "sex heels" that are totally epic, but in limited sizes (so run, don't walk if you want a pair)!

Markus da man

London-based German designer Markus Lupfer is one busy dude. Besides running his own line, he was appointed as design director for the Spanish label Armand Basi One in 2006, which he names as his career highlight. Like other designers, Markus took the label in an 80s direction for next season, giving us a dark collection with masculine touches that was reminiscent of Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto's aesthetic during that decade.



His own line for fall is visibly more commercial, but definitely not boring. If you like sequins but only in moderation, you might get down with one of the sequin print sweaters you can pick up right now at Asos. Apparently this is the second appearance of the sequin lips jumper as it sold out in a flash last time around.





I'm personally a fan of the contrast ruffled appliqué "lost" t-shirt since my head is in the clouds 90% of the time and that crowd print dress is pretty darn rad.





In addition to Asos, Markus has collaborated with Topshop for the past 8 seasons. His pieces for the retailer will be in store in July.

Opening Ceremony Worldwide

The rumors have become reality! As of this week, you don't have to be in LA or NYC to get a piece of the Opening Ceremony pie. Each year, a visiting city is represented at Opening Ceremony by capturing the essence of the consumer experience. "Opening Ceremony recreates a shopping excursion based on four different perspectives--established designer (designers that best exemplify the country), emerging designer, one of a kind vintage pieces and select items from the open-air markets."

One of their recent additions from Japan, is the fashion house G.V.G.V. They have some of the most innovative pieces in the store like this ladder waist top I can see looking amazing with any kind of fitted pant. I love how they put a suggestion for shoes with the product images.



These high waist stretch pants are also from G.V.G.V. Having the zippers go from waist to ankle was an epic idea.



I really want this long A. Wang tux vest but I will prob. opt for a cheap look-a-like somewhere.



And here's a cute lace + mini combo skirt that would melt faces paired with a cropped leather bustier.

Sailing the Dark Seas

So Refinery 29 recently did this extremely helpful feature on the best e-commerce fashion sites. There were actually quite a few I had never heard of so it was fun exploring. Best of all, a lot of them are offering a discount for Refinery 29 readers so it's worth checking out. One of the my favorite new discoveries is Standard Deviation (20% off with code 'refinery29'!). They carry a lot of unique, underrated designers like Beckerman, Ideeen, Preen and Suh-Tahn. I found quite a few things that are going on my wish list, but I really like this Burfitt Corset top that blends "vintage lingerie with nautical inspiration and a touch of goth." The rope straps and triangle cut-out is what really did it for me...on yeah and it's on sale.

I love discovering new e-commerce boutiques, especially when they lean towards selling lesser known, more free-thinking designers. Shop 172 is one of these boutiques, and if it's in Susie Bubble's top ten, you know it's good. Located in the East End of London, they are committed to carrying an international array of under-the-radar designers, all at affordable prices (yay!). Most of the garments in the shop are handmade or produced in small quantities so it's even more exciting because you know it's something you probably won't see anywhere else. So, you're ready to shop right? Well the online store isn't up just yet, but in the meantime you can take a look at a few of the awesome things in their collection.

Chopping Wood

NotCouture pointed out this awesome coat from Urban Outfitters. I've been really wanting a lumberjack plaid coat for the past few winters so this could be the one. I like the sleeve length and the big collar is perfect for the really brisk weather.

Stomping Grounds

This is turning into the season of boots. Or maybe I just am really into black boots right now because I'm stoked about fall and covering up my toes. I came across these amazing matte black wedge boots by Minimarket, made exclusively for Swedish shop Trés Bien. They are such a clean design, with a military lace-up front and the slight angle at the top of the boot. Something made me imagine these with a babydoll dress, circa 1994.

Lately, I've been thrifty with my shopping habits, particularly because we are about to move into a new season and I want to save my dough for some things on my wish list. So I've begun to take a closer look at mall chains and forever-teen stores in hopes of finding some cool deals. I had honestly forgotten about Charlotte Russe, probably because I don't go to malls since I haven't lived in the suburbs for ages. So I took a refresher course and was surprised to find quite a few things I liked. This side zip jacket is very Rick Owens, and it's only $22.99!



I poked around and was amped to see there are lots of tops, bottoms, and shoes with zippered detailing(which I'm a sucker for), and done tastefully for the most part. I spied some Luella and Alexander Wang inspired pieces as well, which is news in itself. Here's a sampling of what's up for grabs.

For me, Hard Candy makeup evokes memories of Hole, babydoll dresses, and Sassy magazine, an era that seems like ages ago. Their pastel nailpolishes were a must-have, especially the baby blue shade that was the new black for awhile back then. Well, sadly the makeup line will be downsizing considerably but the good news is, they are liquidating their entire stock for 75% off. Yes, everything.
