Shallowww

The idea of matching the same print top and bottom reminds me of outfits my mom would buy me when I was a scrunchie-wearing little girl. I may be "all grown up" now, but I've realized the brilliance of having matching top and bottom combos on hand in my wardrobe. I recently ordered this water print crop top and skirt from internet-loving label Shallowww and I can't wait to make a SPLASH in it (sorry, was too easy).

Another way around it

Proenza and Wang both did it this season: the skirt or dress made to look like a shirt is tied around your waist. I actually started doing this before it popped up on Spring '10 catwalks, but after seeing the Wang shirt skirt (above), I went out and got a cheap gray button down from Uniqlo so I could rock this look some more. If you're buying a button up shirt for the main goal of wearing it as a skirt like this, definitely size up, or it won't fit around your waist!

Garden of Earthly Delights

Quite a nice continuation of the head flower pots I came across last week, PAM's summer range, "Garden of Earthly Delights" subjects goddesses and queens alike to some freaky plant hair transplants. As off the wall as PAM might seem season after season, they always seem to come back to using the human face and head, always finding new ways to collage, mutilate, and transform it with their magic touch.



Sans print, I would still love this skirt for the cute silhouette, but the print obviously makes it a million times better. If I go for one thing from this collection, this would be it!





Straying away from plants, PAM also used this fantastic print inspired by early computer graphics and Roman architecture.

Early summer

Somehow (oh yeah, global warming?) it's suddenly summer in April this week in NY, so I seized the opportunity to try out my Cynthia Rowley for Roxy neoprene skirt I eagerly snatched up last week. I'm working on that whole "pop of color!" thing so I have a feeling this bright coral lipstick (from Sephora) will get a lot of action this summer.

Sans surf

I went into the Quicksilver store yesterday on my way home from work to see if they had the Cynthia Rowley for Roxy collection in yet as I'd remember hearing it was due out in March. Turns out, I was (almost) right on time, as it officially dropped today. From the looks of it, the Roxy store didn't get much of the collection as Barneys has dibs on it for the US (and of course Colette gets it too). I hate to sound like a collabo whore, but this one really is good! I was so into the idea of neoprene for the streets that I couldn't resist snatching up both the neoprene dress and skirt. Both fit really well and the colors are stunning. Real outfit posts to come in this gear, but for now, me iphone-ing it in the fitting room!

Clothes for hoes

"What goes around comes around" is a phrase that gets its fair share of use in the cycle of the fashion industry. Nothing ever really goes out of fashion completely- it just disappears for awhile, only to reemerge in some new way which isn't always new, but just different in the context of ten or twenty years later. It's makes me smile though every time I hear my mom say "I had a [insert article of clothing here] JUST like that when I was your age" (as she mutters how she shouldn't have gotten rid of everything all those years ago, as it would have saved me some moolah today). 90s' Versace is a point of reference for many designers these days, most recently covering the mood boards for Louise Goldin's Spring '10 collection. I recently came across the very ad that probably was pinned to Goldin's wall during her design process, starring the one and only Claudia Schiffer next to some other hotties clad in metallic minis.



I was on APC's site and low and behold, they have a gold mini skirt for spring, presenting it in a decidedly less come hither fashion than it was 32 seasons earlier for the house of Versace. Something about the way they dressed it down with a cotton tee and sneakers suddenly makes me consider owning such a gaudy thing.



This whole 90s slutty mini conversation reminded me of an editorial from Russh (issue #20) I had saved for inspiration cleverly titled "Drive Me Wild". This is pretty damn close to the vibe all the cool kids were going for around the height of X-girl's hold on downtown, except you'd have to swap out the heels for vans. What really blew my mind though was the use of rubber in a way that did not involve the words fetish or bondage and in fact looks pretty tame the way it's styled here with ringer tees and tube socks.







The candy-colored custom pieces were acquired from Reactor Rubberwear, Australia's largest and oldest manufacturer of rubber/latex clothing and fetish "accessories." I will leave the latter category to the pros, but I have zero dirty thoughts about this awesome rubber teddy bear, and in fact he'd look rad sitting on a shelf in our apartment next to some bamboo plants.



Then there's Topshop Unique's offbeat surfer-themes spring collection that layered distressed denim over rubber shorts, bras and skirts.



The styling in the show kinda threw me off (ew the hair!), but seeing this and the Russh editorial, I think that rubber has some real potential to go beyond its duties as a baby blocker and bondage wardrobe staple....or I'm just totally crazy and brainwashed by convincing editorials.

Party mode

Sequins are no longer just holiday or prom attire like they were in decades past (not that that needs to be pointed out for most of you)...I actually own silver sequins vans-esque slip ons that always get me plenty of MJ/moonwalking comments but they are pretty rad in my opinion. I spotted this Nicholas Morley iridescent sequin skirt at one of my fave shops, Pixie Market, and although it would be perfect for say a NYE bash, it would look equally amazing in the summer with a white tee. I am a sucker for skirts and dresses with pockets so that is major bonus points.

Addicted

I got it bad for Alter (although I think it might be obvious because we are constantly posting about them). But they make it so easy to get hooked! It really is a one stop shop—and a dangerous one at that. They are blowing through their Fall stock, and i'm apparently blowing my bank account there as well. Check out this beautiful Cheap Monday skirt I got last weekend.

Moto Mini

I've been on the hunt for a leather skirt for awhile. Seeing this young fashionista the other night reminded me to look for one before they are all snatched up (can't seem to find that H&M skirt she has). This skirt is pretty cute since it's a mini high-waist number, and the side zipper makes it more fun. The price ain't bad either— $68 at UO.

stop being so obnoxious

I first saw this bow skirt by Aussie brand Illionaire on one of those style diary sites. This girl in her teens was rocking it with some fuscia tights, and she looked super cute. I forgot about it for awhile, but just saw it again somewhere while searching for something else. It was sold out then, and it's sold out now...at least I think. I wrote an email to the sales guy at Illionaire to double check. Hey, when you want something, it's hard to take no for an answer!

Flower Prints

I used to despise floral prints of any kind. I think this was mainly due to the fact that my mom insisted on decorating my room in the most flowery/pink/overly girly motifs she could find when I was younger. I was a bit of a tomboy more interested in Green Day and soccer so I hated it. Now I'm all grown up and I like pink (sometimes) and flower prints, although I'm picky about them still. This little ruffle skirt has just the right touch of pretty but because it's black, it passes the "not too girly" test in my book.
