Palm Springs
Dare I say the most beautiful nail polish I've ever seen? It was recently released as a collab between Uslu Airlines and Colette to celebrate spring and Colette's 15th anniversary. It's basically a party in a bottle, and even smells like fig...YUM. Get it here.

Angel Hair Pasta
I can't really predict what I'll be feeling come spring, but I feel like I'm curiously peering down this minimalist path á la Calvin Klein in the 90s- tanks, dresses, and one-pieces that are plain as day, but somehow still innovative. Other then the obvious comfort appeal, I like that this sort of style really leaves the door open for coo coo for cocoa puffs accessorizing...if you choose to go that route.

In the night time we are found
A little bit of last minute news I learned over the weekend, but pleased to hear nonetheless: Meadham Kirchhoff, the London-based duo behind one of my fave overall ranges for spring has collaborated with Topshop for an 18-piece collection that debuts this Thursday in store and online. While I was disappointed there are no cheap versions of that stiff glitter t-shirt, the designers did give us glitter polka dots that cover sheer and jersey pieces, some overlapped with gauze, lace and little lakes of paillettes. I love the deconstructed beauty of the dresses and I'm impressed at how well the whole collab stays true to their aesthetic and their darkly romantic spring '10 offerings. Job well done Kirchhoff + Topshop!

The devil's doorway
I have so many t-shirts I forget about and then "rediscover" during hasty pull-an-outfit together sessions when I reach my hand all the way in the bottom of my drawer and wear whatever I find. I think when Uniqlo first opened in NYC a few years ago, I was buying their t-shirts left and right because they're only $15 and I couldn't resist some of the designs. So I've accumulated quite a few by now, like this one with a cluster of illustrated ghouls and goblins I wore on Friday night. I love wearing clashing prints of the same color so I paired it with this vintage word print skirt I got from Dog in Tokyo. It's awesomely tacky with words like "power", "diva", "strong", and "gentle" (??). It's gotta be from the 80s! The jacket is a knockoff Rick Owens I randomly stumbled across on ebay a while ago- it's pretty legit until you feel it!

In the year 2000
Marni Spring '00
Yohji Spring '00
Calvin Klein Spring '00
Dries Van Noten Spring '00
Now that we're in a new decade and all, I'm finding myself looking at turn of the century fashion more than ever. I've been gravitating lately towards what was going down the runways around Spring '00- you probably heard the words "minimalism" and "fresh" tossed around in show reviews that season enough to make your ears bleed. I just found a March 2000 issue of NYLON on ebay (bottom left) promising 100+ pages of Spring 2000 fashion from the catwalks and streets, so I look forward to revisiting that year further when it comes in the mail. Hopefully I find some goodies to scan for you dweebs! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for this other issue from '00 with a twenty-something Amber Valletta on the cover, so if you have it and don't mind parting with it, let me know!

Where to spend your tax refund
There's all sorts of fashy-related stuff in NYC this week... in case your tax refund money was burning a hole in your pocket! Starting off at Oak's Bond St. store tomorrow night from 7-9pm, Salvor Projects Ross Menuez will be unveiling a special installation....don't know much more than that but Salvor rules and free drinks are nice too!

Then this weekend, Love Brigade is joining forces with many of their designer friends for a multi-designer sample sale! Participating designers include the likes of Laura Dawson and Institute of Dress with items marked down to 40%-75% off retail prices. The sale will take place on Saturday & Sunday, from 12pm-8pm at Love Brigade, 230 Grand Street in Williamsburg (L to Bedford Ave).

Also going down Sunday is a jewelry sale at Soho's Woon Salon featuring pieces from the amazingness that is Aesa and Allforthemountain (gimme that meteorite ring!). There will also be swimsuits from Mara Hoffman and nice-smelling natural perfumes by Perfumera Curandera at the sale.

Rounding out the shopping madness this Sunday from 1-4pm is a joint sale with NY designers Noble Youth and Victorialand. Expect great dresses from Noble Youth, and unique shirtings from Victorialand. This takes place at my friend's apartment so you'll probably see me lurking about! (L to Grand St and it's at 750 Grand St, Apt 4G)

Early summer
Somehow (oh yeah, global warming?) it's suddenly summer in April this week in NY, so I seized the opportunity to try out my Cynthia Rowley for Roxy neoprene skirt I eagerly snatched up last week. I'm working on that whole "pop of color!" thing so I have a feeling this bright coral lipstick (from Sephora) will get a lot of action this summer.

Rocky road
I dedicate this post to my bud Jess who always posts the BEST pics of rocks and minerals and cleverly ties them into her daily experiences. I realized in a matter of a few days, I had bookmarked all these rock-related things so it must mean something! Rocky days ahead? I'm going to have mountainous adventures this summer? I have a hard head? Whatevs, this stuff is cool beans to me.

Cosmic Wonder Light Source made these awesome aquamarine stone necklaces that can be found at Doshaburi.

I love the print on this Wood Wood "biometry" tee. It's from a few seasons ago so it's marked down to a sweet price now (bummer shipping to the US is so much though).

I recently came across artist Carly Waito who does these stunning detailed oil paintings of colorful mineral specimens. You can see more on her flickr, and Carly recently outlined her process you can read about here. She let me know she is currently making new stuff for a show opening at Narwhal Art Projects in Toronto this summer so keep an eye out for that.

The rope used in these sandals looks similar to what a rock climber uses! They are from the latest Bernhard Willhelm for Camper Together collection you can see in action during the Spring 2010 show and I'm considering scooping these up when they hit stores.

Out for the day
So a bit of exciting news I've been keeping from you all- yours truly is going to Tokyo next week!! I can't even begin to express how excited I am, understandably as I'm like the biggest Japanoholic I know. I thought I'd put together a little mish-mash of wish list things into an outfit suitable for roaming around a new city. It all started with that American Eagle (of all brands) button up I saw on Refinery, that then reminded me of Junya Watanabe's Spring '09 range (top left image) and the rest just came together. I have Crayon Lee, a stylish chica I saw on Stylelikeu, to thank for discovering those clear converse sneaks... definitely an ugly/beautiful moment.

Junya Watanabe Spring '09; Margiela ring, Colette; gingham shirt, AE; double pocket trench, Opening Ceremony; Wood Wood trousers, Creatures of Comfort; Uslu Airlines nailpolish, Colette; clear Converse, Journeys; Undercover backpack from Colette; Swatch watch, Colette

Color me bad
Some of my friends think Uniqlo should be paying me as much as I talk about that store. I just dig their business model, advertising, collabos, etc, and it's some of the best quality "fast fashion" stuff you can get in Soho that won't fall apart after washing it twice (oh hai H&M!). Anyways, I stalk their "Explorer" quite often to see what's up and recently discovered these faux leather bomber jackets that are new for spring. Leather jackets are typically a garment that suggests some sort of edge or toughness, so the irony that these are colored like damn easter eggs is pretty refreshing. I could get down with one of these colors paired with a lot of whites and nudes.

I stopped by the store and they didn't have the lavender or minty color in stock yet but I tried on the gray, and it's surprisingly soft for synthetic leather (they also come in black and beige if these colors make you want to puke).

Natural habitat
One of my favorite online stores to window shop is without a doubt LA's Creatures of Comfort. There's so much good stuff in store right now from Acne, Diana Orving, Bernhard Willhelm, VPL...the list goes on and on. They seriously have one of the best edits stateside, especially for Australian and Scandinavian labels. I put together just one of the many summer outfits I'd like to take home with me.

In your eyes
Oh what a weekend! It was THE warmest one we've had so far this year in NYC and everyone came out of the cracks to celebrate. I spent part of Saturday sitting in McCarren park with the rest of Williamsburg. I rocked my newly acquired stars & stripes hologram shades- I happen to be a big fan of holograms, so don't pull the irony card on me! The girl with the faux diamond bejeweled "ho fo sho" pimp cup that was sitting near us takes the cake.

quality testing
When I was in Seattle earlier this week, I stopped by Rue Stewart boutique and picked up this pretty Karen Zambos silk dress. Although it's long sleeved, it's very lightweight and airy- perfect for NY spring time!

Nellie Partow
NY-based Nellie Partow is a designer relatively new to the fashion landscape, but I see this girl going far. Her first collection was for Spring 08, and since then she has been perfecting her vision of effortless, unique pieces that are rooted in timeless beauty. She makes dressing "like a lady" look easy- especially for stubborn girls like myself. Nellie is having a sample sale tomorrow with 70-80% off her Spring and Fall 08 collections (Fall 09 pictured below). Wine will be served!

Almost there
OMG, an outfit post! I know, it's a rare thing on this blog. ANYway, the other day it was kind of mild so I opted to build up an outfit in layers of black. I actually snuck some navy blue in there but it's hard to tell from the crappy indoor shot- that's what I like about navy and black though. The coat is Uniqlo which I scooped up pretty cheap last month in their hidden basement sale section. The rest: cardigan, Lux; sheer babydoll dress, F21; cigarette pants, BDG.

The moccasin sandals are my latest shoe purchase which I found at Don The Verb, a tiny vintage shop on Delancey that houses a carefully edited collection of mostly dark and avant-garde designer pieces. The lady that runs the shop informed me they were used for the Don The Verb fall show (they have their own line on the side), which you can see on WWD.

Gold n' Cream
I scored these vintage Bally lace-ups (never worn!) from Beacon's in Williamsburg. With soft cream leather, gold braided details and gold flower eyelets, these flats are a perfect compliment to any spring outfit.

Out with the old, in with the new
I picked up two new pairs of flats on Saturday just in time for spring. The floral ballet flats are from Old Navy and the white jazz shoes I scored at Irregular Choice on sale! They had a million boxes in there stacked up to the ceiling, so I'm stoked to see the new goods in store soon.

I prefer the sunshine
Sunshine & Shadow has caught my attention before with their beautiful tie-dye scarves. Now they're back with some lovely printed frocks I would love on hand when the temps get above 70º. I Heart comes through again with the goods!

To the naked eye
Part Westwood pirate boot, part sandal, and a hidden wedge: these fun shoes are the work of 80%20 and I want them in my closet this summer. On a day when you want to feel taller but look casual, these are a great option.

Spring at Zara
I popped into Zara this week to check out the spring offerings making their way onto the floor. It looks promising! I saw blazers (below), lots of color, some awesome metal belts, and an abstract neon floral-print dress that caught my eye. From the looks of the spring catalogue now online, there will be plenty of great shoes coming too....I'm already sold on the chunky peep-toe lace-up (pictured first).
