Shallowww

The idea of matching the same print top and bottom reminds me of outfits my mom would buy me when I was a scrunchie-wearing little girl. I may be "all grown up" now, but I've realized the brilliance of having matching top and bottom combos on hand in my wardrobe. I recently ordered this water print crop top and skirt from internet-loving label Shallowww and I can't wait to make a SPLASH in it (sorry, was too easy).

Nice view

It's been awhile since I've showed face around here but sunsets in NYC never get old, especially when experienced on rooftop bars of uber-cool hotels. Being backlit means loss of detail, so I have to point out that's a croc-embossed pony hair skirt and it's OG Versace, as in when Gianni was still alive and his name was on the label...I gotta say it's one of my best vintage finds to date. BOOM.

What have you done for me lately

Sorry dudes- not much stuff of "substance" to blog about lately, so instead here's some shitty iPhone pics of recent times. Once I'm moved and settled into my new apartment, I'll be back on the chain gang!

Bring it on

I'm in super anticipation-of-summer mode. I ponder outfits when I can't sleep, but end up forgetting about a lot of them once they are weather appropriate. Last night I documented one way I might wear the slinky neon Jil Sander tank dress I picked up at their "secret" sample sale last week (I got a few other amazing pieces which I'll share soonish).

neon pink tank dress, Jil Sander; black mesh dress, Weekday; airplane charm purchased in LA; clear sunglasses, (old) F21; shoes, Comme des Garcons

If I had to set a direction for dressing myself in the warmer months, it'd be some sort of mish-mash of minimal/sporty/relaxed geometry. Of course you can see where the Jil Sander and CDG hex shoes play into that. On a related note, this editorial featuring an active Natasha Poly has some amazing moments.

The above image is from that March 2000 issue of NYLON I nabbed recently...which sorta fits into the minimal/sporty/relaxed geometry equation too. How amazing are those Margiela 3D-style sunglasses?? Yo someone at the house of Margiela, REMAKE THEM! I also really dig the hairdo/hat/black ribbon combo that's eerily similar to that look I found in Numero Tokyo last year. The black leather slip-ons are from Topshop and kinda create an outfit together with the picture (I'd just need some bottoms and something over the CK bra top!).

Thinking about this "direction" I'm loosely trying to achieve led me to revisit Zero + Maria Cornejo's Spring '08 and '09 collections and her ability to create perfectly modern, yet effortless shapes (peep that eye makeup!). Maybe I'll get lucky and find some cool pieces at the Zero + Maria Cornejo sample sale that starts tomorrow and goes through Friday. An email from the label promises archive samples from the past 10 years! Here's the deets: Wed, April 28, 10:30am-7pm, Thurs, April 29, 8am-7:30pm, Fri, April 30, 8am-3pm, Metropolitan Pavilion, Gallery Level, 123 W 18th St @ 6th Ave.

Early summer

Somehow (oh yeah, global warming?) it's suddenly summer in April this week in NY, so I seized the opportunity to try out my Cynthia Rowley for Roxy neoprene skirt I eagerly snatched up last week. I'm working on that whole "pop of color!" thing so I have a feeling this bright coral lipstick (from Sephora) will get a lot of action this summer.

Out for the day

So a bit of exciting news I've been keeping from you all- yours truly is going to Tokyo next week!! I can't even begin to express how excited I am, understandably as I'm like the biggest Japanoholic I know. I thought I'd put together a little mish-mash of wish list things into an outfit suitable for roaming around a new city. It all started with that American Eagle (of all brands) button up I saw on Refinery, that then reminded me of Junya Watanabe's Spring '09 range (top left image) and the rest just came together. I have Crayon Lee, a stylish chica I saw on Stylelikeu, to thank for discovering those clear converse sneaks... definitely an ugly/beautiful moment.

Hop to it

I can bookmark stuff all day and tag it with "wish list", but here's a realistic shopping list I hope to check off in its entirety that would make a nice fall outfit. The alice + olivia for Payless biker boots I gave a heads up about are now available, and I've always wanted some dope flip shades! It all looks and sounds ($$) good to me.

If living is without you

Last Saturday, I braved 90ยบ weather on bike to check out the SANS sample sale. It was my first introduction to the brand, and the pieces were really amazing up close. I left with a few selections including this vest that has giant rivets and an invisible magnet closure (looks like I should have hooks holding me up).

Natural habitat

One of my favorite online stores to window shop is without a doubt LA's Creatures of Comfort. There's so much good stuff in store right now from Acne, Diana Orving, Bernhard Willhelm, VPL...the list goes on and on. They seriously have one of the best edits stateside, especially for Australian and Scandinavian labels. I put together just one of the many summer outfits I'd like to take home with me.

Open arms

Regardless of financial situation, I can never keep from browsing ebay on an almost daily basis. I come across a lot of things in these searches that I realize would be a good investment piece such as my latest obsession: black vests. They are great for layering and instantly sway the attitude of an outfit one way or the other depending on the style. I was attracted to these two of complete opposite variety. The leather biker vest is a 3.1 Phillip Lim sample and what else can I say but it's perfect. If I had several benjamins to drop, I'd also consider this mongolian fur gilet (wish it was faux). I like how it's styled here with a tight bodycon dress and chains...it really does a lot to the whole silhouette of the outfit.

It's Officially Fall

Today marks the first day of fall for the Northern hemisphere. I clicked over to Urban Outfitters to mark the occasion and see what I might consider picking up for the change of seasons. I like this idea for an outfit—both pieces by Silence and Noise. The poncho top is a look I think could be achieved by an oversize flannel but this one is nice because it's a purple plaid and it's got snaps on the sides. The leggings are rad and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of this wet/coated/pvc type look this season. The Sass & Bide ones rock my world but they are retarded expensive for leggings, even though they do sort of cross over into pants territory. I have a cheap pair I bought in the spring but they are kind of looking weathered so I think I'll pick up this pair for $38. For shoes, any kind of black chunky heel or ankle boot would look hot with this outfit.
