You're so transparent

How the hell is it June already?? I don't even know what to wear anymore..but that's where having rad accessories on hand comes in. Even if you are wearing the same ol same, you can reach for some stunner piece and feel more put together. That's what I dig about this five-panel transparent hat from Larose. You just can't use it to hide a bad hair day!

Shallowww

The idea of matching the same print top and bottom reminds me of outfits my mom would buy me when I was a scrunchie-wearing little girl. I may be "all grown up" now, but I've realized the brilliance of having matching top and bottom combos on hand in my wardrobe. I recently ordered this water print crop top and skirt from internet-loving label Shallowww and I can't wait to make a SPLASH in it (sorry, was too easy).

Nice view

It's been awhile since I've showed face around here but sunsets in NYC never get old, especially when experienced on rooftop bars of uber-cool hotels. Being backlit means loss of detail, so I have to point out that's a croc-embossed pony hair skirt and it's OG Versace, as in when Gianni was still alive and his name was on the label...I gotta say it's one of my best vintage finds to date. BOOM.

hat, Only NY; tank, T by Alexander Wang; skirt, Gianni Versace

Double the pleasure

So, some important purchases in my life in the past few weeks, if you care to bask in my satisfaction. The pictures speak for themselves really, but to sum it up: 1.) WANT became REALITY; 2.) My wardrobe is complete.

UH merica

I was originally going to be an American Gladiator for halloween last year. That didn't happen. Well the next best thing would be adding a second flag-inspired swimsuit into my collection, especially one by Jeremy Scott. Hey, I go to the beach like A LOT in the summer. Plus this can double as a bodysuit! On another note, I put up new stuff in the Mart.. go PEEP.

Youth Blood

I gotta hand it to UO. The retailer's vision is having a glimmering moment in catalog form for the early fall push. A combo of the right models (Anja Konstantinova!), great styling, and really creative art direction and photography has made for some pretty rad spreads this month. Catalogs are such a stale thing these days, so it's refreshing to see them given a more editorial treatment to get consumers' attention. Otherwise, their fate in the recycling bin comes a whole lot quicker!

Waves are free

Alexandra Cassaniti grew up a beach bum, a surfer chick who never planned to be a fashion designer, but with a natural love of creating things and the ocean, what else are you gonna do with a smile on your face? I obviously love her and after iconic surf brand Billabong discovered Alexandra, they had to show her some love too. The two collaborated this summer to make a line of cotton tees and tanks inspired by that sandy happy place I've been running off to every weekend. Look for the tops in Billabong stores now, and check out all the styles/colors here.

Slim shady

You know who rules? Complex Geometries. Being a brand known mostly for their unique loose-cut jersey pieces has not stopped them from shifting gears from time to time. Case in point, they've put out this hot knit style that is available in a bodysuit or tube dress. It's oozing sexy summer robot vibes and I'm totally into it, just maybe not when the sun is blazing on my back.

PS: There's a Complex Geometries sale on Privé this week!

Go 'head

Oh hey folks! Guess what? It's still not summer!!!! Over it. I mean I've been steadily stockpiling tank tops to get ready for the dog days...and I would like to stop wearing jackets like yesterday. Luckily we had decent weather a few weekends ago for the Kentucky Derby. Now I'm not one to get all superstoke over a sporting event, but this was something new to me, and I embraced it. HATS & LADIES was the name of the game, and my girl came through with this striped number that was perfect for the occasion. Nevermind it was totally reminiscent of Prada's steez for this season (AND I was wearing my newly acquired lucite Prada heels I scooped from Century 21).

I guess I'm like hypnotized by Prada right now, cause I was messing around on Asos yesterday and bought this banana crop tank which I can't wait to throw on with some cutoffs. Summer of SASS.

I'm kinda craving some banana Runts® now...those are my fave.

Just Cheap

I think now's a good time to revisit Cheap Monday Spring 2011 cause everything is now in stores! I personally think this is their strongest collection to date, especially in terms of wearability, variety of pieces, and the sheer size of the range. Click over to Karmaloop and there's like 3 pages of Cheap Monday for this season! I've already picked up a few pieces, and plan to stop by Alter in Brooklyn to see what they have in stock.

Double dip

I'm sure plenty of ya'll are busy getting your summer bods in order. Or maybe you can't be bothered! Maybe you eat french fries on the regs and get away with it. Maybe you can appreciate the irony regardless of this Jeremy Scott for Adidas fry print swimsuit. I'm pretty stoked he chose to resurrect this print that originally appeared in his Eat The Rich Fall '06 range that basically took its inspiration from junk food. Even though it's technically swimwear, I can see it looking pretty dope as a bodysuit paired with some denim or shorty shorts...right?

Peekaboo

I guess Jeremy Scott has a lot going on these days! He just wrapped up a crazy, ravetastic fashion show in New York for Fall 11, launched a collaboration with Swatch (with his face in Times Square above the store), and I just clicked over to Colette to see these INSANE shades he just put out with Linda Farrow. Club kids everywhere rejoice!

Back from commercial break

Hola amigos!! I'm back from holiday so bear with me as I get caught up with the internet game and the game of life. Costa Rica was a blast into outer space..a much-needed complete 360º from the fast-paced dramatic world of the rotten apple. Despite the fantasy that included surfing, coconuts, rum, mass quantities of Imperial® beer, waterfalls, monkies, geckos, giant frogs, whale sex, jungles, and a dope crew of kids, I'm happy to be back on the grind...well sort of.

Water World

The other day a friend forwarded me a lookbook from recent Parsons grad Mary Chin, claiming it was "right up my alley." Not only was she right, but the timing couldn't be more perfect as Mary's SS10 collection is all about liquid...and I'm all about being in the ocean right now (Costa Rica here I come!!). A cool palette of icy whites and turquoise blues transform neoprene, liquid chiffon, and latex into a dreamy watery world I wouldn't mind taking a dip into.

Wear it out

My summer top drawer is pissing me off, so I'm attempting to fix that, and I found these shirts by Dimepiece I just ordered. I'm not into the typical "girl streetwear brand" mold, but I'm happy to see a lot of those brands are tossing cliches out the door, and doing what they want...although you'll still see plenty of fempowerment graphics like "Ain't no wifey" and "You're gonna get yours," NOT that I'm anti-speaking your mind, cause clearly I got the hots for Satan.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

Who's ready for summer? I'm breaking in my ankles as we speak- case in point, I woke up this morning with my sock stuck to a blister scab. I never hated taking a sock off so much in my life.

1. Adieu t-shirt
2. Saskia Diez colored wood bead hair ties
3. Ksubi jeans I scored at their in-store sale last week
4. Bless heaven & hell purse
5. Bruno Pieters SS10 clear jelly/ice chunk sandals
6. Von Sono oversized silk jumpsuit
7. Ceramic ice cream cone lights
8. Eyelet bumbag from Topshop

Bring it on

I'm in super anticipation-of-summer mode. I ponder outfits when I can't sleep, but end up forgetting about a lot of them once they are weather appropriate. Last night I documented one way I might wear the slinky neon Jil Sander tank dress I picked up at their "secret" sample sale last week (I got a few other amazing pieces which I'll share soonish).

neon pink tank dress, Jil Sander; black mesh dress, Weekday; airplane charm purchased in LA; clear sunglasses, (old) F21; shoes, Comme des Garcons

If I had to set a direction for dressing myself in the warmer months, it'd be some sort of mish-mash of minimal/sporty/relaxed geometry. Of course you can see where the Jil Sander and CDG hex shoes play into that. On a related note, this editorial featuring an active Natasha Poly has some amazing moments.

The above image is from that March 2000 issue of NYLON I nabbed recently...which sorta fits into the minimal/sporty/relaxed geometry equation too. How amazing are those Margiela 3D-style sunglasses?? Yo someone at the house of Margiela, REMAKE THEM! I also really dig the hairdo/hat/black ribbon combo that's eerily similar to that look I found in Numero Tokyo last year. The black leather slip-ons are from Topshop and kinda create an outfit together with the picture (I'd just need some bottoms and something over the CK bra top!).

Thinking about this "direction" I'm loosely trying to achieve led me to revisit Zero + Maria Cornejo's Spring '08 and '09 collections and her ability to create perfectly modern, yet effortless shapes (peep that eye makeup!). Maybe I'll get lucky and find some cool pieces at the Zero + Maria Cornejo sample sale that starts tomorrow and goes through Friday. An email from the label promises archive samples from the past 10 years! Here's the deets: Wed, April 28, 10:30am-7pm, Thurs, April 29, 8am-7:30pm, Fri, April 30, 8am-3pm, Metropolitan Pavilion, Gallery Level, 123 W 18th St @ 6th Ave.

Miu mania

Zara

Here's more evidence of Laia's self-proclaimed CATSPRING 2010 and I guess some SWALLOWSUMMER for lack of a better word. I was checking out some of the new stuff on Zara's site when I came across not one, but TWO Miu Miu inspired prints: a cat dress and a swallow bodysuit. After all the mania surrounding this collection, I knew it would trickle down to this level in some form or another. It's nice to see they are't direct copies and I can imagine that bodysuit being a rad little layering option to have in your drawer this summer.

I could use some $900 leather underwear

I mean they're shorts and hot at that (by Margiela if you're wondering), but at what length does a short stop being a short? What's more crazy, the price or the butt cleavage you'd be exposing to the world? If I had this girl's legs/tiny behind and these were at least 90% cheaper, MAYBE I'd consider.

Garden of Earthly Delights

Quite a nice continuation of the head flower pots I came across last week, PAM's summer range, "Garden of Earthly Delights" subjects goddesses and queens alike to some freaky plant hair transplants. As off the wall as PAM might seem season after season, they always seem to come back to using the human face and head, always finding new ways to collage, mutilate, and transform it with their magic touch.

Sans print, I would still love this skirt for the cute silhouette, but the print obviously makes it a million times better. If I go for one thing from this collection, this would be it!

Straying away from plants, PAM also used this fantastic print inspired by early computer graphics and Roman architecture.

Have a few minutes to surrender to the time vortex? PAM made this mini Freudian film a few years back that should calm you down on your lunch break.
