Who doesn't love a pop-up shop?

It seems around this time of year, the cool urban centers of the world start sprouting up pop-up shops to kick off the holiday season. Tonight, Brooklyn's Rouge 58 gallery will open The Arche, a pop-up boutique running for two weeks only, combining emerging talent and established designers in both fashion and jewelry. This inaugural installment will reflect the dark minimalism that has become an essential element of New York style. Playing on the industrial space of the gallery, clothes will be displayed suspended at different lengths from chains, whilst jewelry will be displayed hanging from a pillar in the middle of the store using satin ties and encased in a jewelry box.

Keep x Ooga Booga Mini Shop

If you're in LA, and looking to get a head start on holiday shopping, you're in luck! Keep (the vegan shoe label) has joined forces with Ooga Booga to host a "Mini Shop" that celebrates with an opening tomorrow from 6-9pm at Keep's Fairfax store (523 North Fairfax Avenue). The shop will feature a fun assortment of items, all under 100 bones, from OB's tightly knit community of artists, musicians, photographers and designers. Contributors include Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony, Alexandra Cassaniti and more (and that's just the fashion tip of the iceberg). The shop will stick around until the new year.





In honor of the collaboration, Keep + Ooga Booga have also made fresh fruit preserves and pickled beets which use sustainable produce only. YUM. Get your eat and shop on for me!

A taste of the future

After reading on Racked the other day that the US Topshop would be getting their own EDIT pop-up shop, I haven't been able to get over my excitement. I know what you're thinking...pop-up, schmop-up, but it includes KTZ, which is great news to MY ears at least. Their "Future Ghost Tribal" fall collection is next level, and the denim is no exception. I rarely buy jeans anymore as I have amassed quite enough already, but do you see these things!? Raised swirly and geometric shapes that look like fresh tattoos, except made of denim.



Then Susie has to post this pic of her trying out one of the pieces at a Topshop blogger press event, and I'm REALLY excited now. The shop will also include Nakkna from Sweden and White Trumpet who I'm both stoked about as well, and is set to drop September 13.

O+S, What!

Wednesday night, me and some friends rolled to the opening party for the Obesity and Speed pop-up shop at Earnest Sewn. There was a good turnout of folks there to support Lyz and Josh and scope the pieces up for sale. I was reallly into the whole shopping experience, complete with giant posters, a static-filled tv reminiscent of Poltergeist, and a table of zines and stickers (the sticker went right on my bike).





The focus in the room though was definitely the satanic cross mirror- nice touch!





I scanned in a few spreads from the zine to show you some of the designs offered in the shop. I ended up getting the skull tank (second image down), but will probably end up going back for more!









The O+S pop-up is at Earnest Sewn on 821 Washington St. in the Meatpacking District. You have till September to stop by and check it out!

80%20 in the house

Inven.tory is quickly becoming one of my fave places to shop in the city- especially now that I Heart is no longer around (sad face). In addition to regular new stock from the baddest designers around, they are beginning to host in-store pop-ups for up-and-coming labels. This coming Tuesday, they'll be throwing down to celebrate the launch of 80%20's pop-up from 6-8pm. There will be good deals on the spring/summer line to be had, plus free liquid refreshment. The pop-up only runs from this Saturday until June 28 so don't miss out!

Cheap Monday + WKND Concept Store

As if New High (M)art and Welcome Hunters wasn't enough to make me envy you LA folks, now you are getting a pop-up shop marking the US debut of Cheap Monday's WKND line, which I should clarify isn't available outside Sweden or Denmark, not even online. When I was in Stockholm last year, I got to see all the Weekday collections in person, and I really wanted to take everything home with me. The designs are fresh, and the garments are comfortable and affordable...what else could you ask for?

The complete Cheap Monday and WKND collections will be housed at Choose Chinatown, a new concept store created by the owners of Welcome Hunters and Lions Den. The store will also carry Cheap Monday's other lines, Kostym and L.L. Vintage. I'd say LA's Chinatown is turning into quite the fashion mecca...I may just have to book a flight over there this year.

The WKND SS09 collection, designed by Peter Jansson, invokes images of destruction in the form of earthquakes, flooding, typhoons, and volcanoes....very much a sign of the times.

The Second Big Bang

As part of New High (M)art's latest installment entitled Cosmic Collision, one of the sci-fi collections available in the shop is from Spacelite Vintage. With a hyper pairing of the past and future, Spacelite has contributed some amazing metallic and night-black garments available for a limited time in the store. If you don't live near LA, don't fret, as there will be an online store up soon and until then you can view a lot of the items on flickr and email for purchase inquiries.

Cosmic Collision

One of these days I'll make it out to LA, and one of the shops I'll be sure not to miss is New High (M)art. Every couple of months, they start fresh with a new themed collection, and design the store's interior to match. The next pop-up, which opens September 10, is called Cosmic Collision, and like the name suggests, it will carry the most futuristic, space-inspired fashion finds. Expect lots of metallics, glow in the dark accessories, and sci-fi garments from up-and-coming designers like Lenny Leleu, Powerhaus, Face, and AGBDesigns.

Actual Pain release today!

Stop by the Mishka Pop-up shop today to check out the new collection from Actual Pain (N 5th and Bedford Ave in the 'burg). The entire Summer 2008 Sketchbook collection will be taking over the shop so go get pained! Later on, head over to Trophy bar in the South side to "drink the blood of posers" and act like a metal head, if you aren't already.

Colette to Pop Up in NYC

Colette, the world-famous French boutique filled with a surplus of exclusive products you can almost never get your hands on, is opening a pop-up shop in NYC the end of this summer. Starting on September 5 and lasting one month, Colette will open it's doors on 54th Street to it's culture-crazed customers. I must admit, this location doesn't seem the best place for a store that sells design books, short run t-shirt lines and tote bags but I'm sure the downtown kids will line up anyway.

Made in HK

Tomorrow, pop-up boutique Made in HK opens downtown until the end of May. It will feature handpicked wares like clothing, accessories, and cultural ephemera from a selection of Hong Kong's emerging and established designers. There is an opening bash for it tonight from 6-8pm.
