Brace yourself '90s kids! House of Style is coming back, like for REAL. Nuts right? The pre-internet show that so perfectly captured fashion and my generation from 1989-2002 is set to return and I couldn't be more stoked. I know it won't be the same without Cindy Crawford hosting (and they've yet to pick a host for the return), but television needs a series like this back on the airwaves. It doesn't premiere until October, but MTV has done what they should have done a long time ago and compiled around 170 clips from the show's 72 episodes for our viewing pleasure. I watched a bunch of them already...there's some serious gems!

People power
Regardless of your feelings on the character, Kanye can DRESS. Case in point, he rocked an Actual Pain cap front row at Jeremy Scott yesterday. TJ's got to be at least a little proud to have someone so influential repping his gear! The hat is sold out in their shop, but the pyramid graphic is available on several other products, including a tank which I own and plan on wearing out this summer.

Can they do no wrong?
If you're an Olsen hater, not an Olsen lover, you can change the channel...now. I don't peep the gossip blogs too much, but I guess Mary-Kate and Ashley had a little party in NYC yesterday to celebrate Textile Elizabeth & James, which according to Ashley is "a well-rounded collection of casual to dressy options for the trend conscious customer." MKA wore pant styles from the Fall '11 collection but I'm just in love with both their looks 100%...and those Balenciaga heels- JESUS!!

Snowmageddon
We are in the midst of a blizzard here in NYC, complete with thunder and lightning! I was away in Maryland for Christmas but found myself jumping in my car a bit early today to try and beat the white stuff (um, FAIL as you can see). Man do I hate driving in snow, but at least I was comfortable. These Rosenmunns pants are the coziest things on the planet...I never want to take them off.

The devil's doorway
I have so many t-shirts I forget about and then "rediscover" during hasty pull-an-outfit together sessions when I reach my hand all the way in the bottom of my drawer and wear whatever I find. I think when Uniqlo first opened in NYC a few years ago, I was buying their t-shirts left and right because they're only $15 and I couldn't resist some of the designs. So I've accumulated quite a few by now, like this one with a cluster of illustrated ghouls and goblins I wore on Friday night. I love wearing clashing prints of the same color so I paired it with this vintage word print skirt I got from Dog in Tokyo. It's awesomely tacky with words like "power", "diva", "strong", and "gentle" (??). It's gotta be from the 80s! The jacket is a knockoff Rick Owens I randomly stumbled across on ebay a while ago- it's pretty legit until you feel it!

Dot your i's
We were blessed with a just-kidding-it's-not-really-spring-yet day Saturday, so I put on my '04 Junya Watanabe dress right after retrieving it from the post office and ran outside. So stoked on it! I'm not one to obsess over mimicking the runway, but the way this was shown that season is pretty convincing...in regards to wearing it with pants at least. It's almost necessary as this thing is tricky to wear alone otherwise (hello transparency!). I'm wearing the dress with my newly acquired Jil Sander for Uniqlo khaki jacket I got last week from the just-launched spring collabo. The collection was definitely jacket-heavy, but I went straight for this particular one because it's trademark Jil "no frills", and not quite a trench, but trench-like, not to mention I LIVE for snap buttons...so much fun. I'm looking forward to the other two mini-installments due in stores over the next month or two- a sales girl said it would be mainly "basics" so we'll see.

Sleepwalker
It's officially winter and NYC is getting pounded by their first seasonal dose of white stuff as I write this. It's enough of a pain having to put on all those extra layers to protect my appendages, so it's nice when my outfit is a no-brainer. Danae alerted me to a Betsey Johnson sale a few weeks ago so I stopped by since it's pretty much the only time I go into that store (my lifestyle and wardrobe choices rarely call for girly party dresses). I immediately snatched this hooded skull jumpsuit off the rack, and I could not resist getting it once I tried it on. I mean what could be easier to put on in the winter than this thing!? I definitely get the one raised eyebrow glance from people on the train but whatevs, I admit it looks like pajamas.

onesie, Betsey Johnson; knit vest, H&M; coat, Uniqlo; sneakers, Bernhard Willhelm
The oversized painted skull print felt sort of tribal to me so I was inspired to roll with that. I was digging around for the right necklace and instead found these wooden hand earrings I had gotten a long time ago from the Rasta jewelry stand on Canal St and made one into a necklace. I think it might look better on a leather cord but this chain works for now.

I'm so psyched on my new Bernhard Willhelm sneakers I found at the Opening Ceremony sample sale last week. They are a soft nappa leather and the design is more of a boot/moccasin/sneaker hybrid which I love.

Big pin
I have a couple of cardigans and vests that don't have any type of closure. I like wearing them open, but I thought it would be cool to buy a giant safety pin, like the one on the YMC cardigan I posted in September, for a different look. Bless makes some colored ones you can get at Stand Up Comedy, but I found this 5" silver one on ebay for only a couple bucks. I tried it out Saturday with a long black knit vest and love the way it looks. I might go back for more smaller ones I can use to wrap/drape/fold my garments into twisted creations secured with a pin!

dress, Poti Poti; vest, H&M; gray cardigan, Monki; pants, BDG; shoes, Clarks; watch, boyfriend's G-Shock
Later that night, I kept the vest on and put on my new Uniqlo knit shorts for my birthday festivities. Excuse the nasty expression (I had just taken a shot)!

RIP Daul Kim
I still don't want to believe the horrible news that Daul Kim is gone. She was my favorite model out there, and beyond the pretty face and amazing career, she was a person I could relate to. Daul wore her heart on her sleeve, stayed true to herself, and had a magnetic personality that made you want to know more about her. The images I love most of Daul are those shots that capture her being herself away from the fashion weeks and fancy sets. These shots are from Your Boyhood, a style blog based in Daul's hometown of Seoul that often ran into her in shops around the city.

RIP Daul. Say hi to forever for me!

It's a circus out thurr
NYC was in full-on party mode for Fashion's Night Out last night, which I overheard described as "trick-or-treating for the fashion crowd." Yup, pretty much was that. As much as I was tempted to hit up the Opening Ceremony block party, the Oak/April77 bash and a ton more shindigs in the city, I was way too exhausted to go all out last night. I still supported some of the local shops in Brooklyn and stopped by Alter in Greenpoint, where I couldn't resist picking up a necklace by Cheap Monday (the, uh, ode to college one). My outfit was kind of Comme des Garcons meets Rick Owens (my jacket is literally a Rick Owens knockoff), and the sheer pink polka dot top was made possible by my mom's closet.

It's a shirt, it's a dress
As I look back on my summer clothing habits, one recurring staple was shirt dresses. I don't plan on stopping this pattern going into fall, but rather adjust it to the weather by adding more layers. I got this Mary Meyer oversized number at Barneys Co-Op in the beginning of the summer and I've worn it a million times since. I'm wearing it here with the Alice + Olivia for Payless biker wedges that I'm so glad I got. If you are considering getting these, just DO IT.

dress, Mary Meyer; boots, alice + olivia for Payless; sunglasses, vintage; necklace, UO/diyed
I rode my bike out to Coney Island a few weekends ago (from the other side of Brooklyn) and this dress came out again, thrown over some bike shorts of course.

This is probably the most basic of shirt dresses but it gives me a clean slate to wear it with just about anything...like tie-dye skull leggings.

It just goes to show you
If the sky could've talked today, it would have said "blaahhhh", so it was a perfect situation to go see The September Issue (loved it!). I just scooped up these mesh insert jeans from Bebe which I noticed on their site when I spotted these transformer jeans (which turned out to be horrid in person) and so went into their store (for the first time in ages) to check them out. It was hard to focus on their potential in the fitting room with eurotrance blaring, but I put them on when I got home and was glad I took the plunge. The mesh is actually very thick and doubled up, and has stretch in it so it's very comfortable.

Simple pleasures
Elle is on a roll so far with their "Wardrobe Chic" series, where they give us a look into the wardrobes of handpicked NYC designers. First was Sophomore's Chrissie Miller, and their second installment is with Sophie and Lisa of Vena Cava! I'm a big Vena Cava fan, and I read their witty, inspiring blog regularly, so it was a treat to see what these ladies like to wear. I particularly relate to Lisa Mayock's style and would love to raid this girl's closet- super awesome taste in decorating too if you look behind her.

Eat it
I met my friend in the park tonight to give her a belated birthday gift. I took advantage of the opportunity for an impromptu nighttime shoot as most of my "style" shots are in my cluttered apartment. This marks the debut of my G.V.G.V. for Uniqlo dress (worn as a top) I recently picked up. I was lucky to stumble upon it and a few other pieces by Japanese designers last week as Uniqlo did no press for this particular collab. Sneaky sneaky!!

Here's Jess trying out her new Homer slippers I gifted her tonight. We then proceeded to awkwardly climb Williamsburg's "Vagina Tree".

Black bird
When I took this picture, my boyfriend was like, "why are you posing like a flamingo?" OBVIOUSLY I just wanted to show off the shoes! I bought these Margiela platform sandals at their sample sale a few months ago and have yet to wear them anywhere. I'm convinced I need to log some hours test-driving them around the apartment, cause they are pretty high. The mesh top just came in the mail today from RE-RUN Vintage and I can't wait to play with layering different things with it. It has long wide sleeves, perfect for rolling up into big cuffs.

Go Chrissie!!
The Elle blog just started this new series called Wardrobe Chic where they visit the closets and studios of some of their favorite NYC designers to give us a look at their personal style....behind the seams if you will. First up was Chrissie Miller of Sophomore who shacks up in the East Village. She modeled ten of her favorite looks and looks like she had a blast while doing it. I love her label so I knew I would love her own taste in clothes too.

Here's a few of the outtakes...

Look what I found
You might notice things have gotten a little wider around here. No, not me! I just widened the blog a tad so I don't have to squish images as much. That's all.
Saturday, a few friends and I hopped in my ride and slowly made it out to some random part of Long Island in an attempt to "escape the city" for the day. We were successful at getting away from the city, but didn't make it very far as the traffic was a nightmare (was everyone and their mom going to the beach??). I'd say we all made out pretty well though after combing through a few smelly thrift stores.

I surprisingly only made one purchase, a black batwing cardigan cape for $8, and everyone agreed it was meant for me. It has these boxy shoulder pads I'm debating on replacing with smaller ones or taking out. I'm wearing it here with this awesome Potipoti shirt dress I finally went for, after first seeing it in April.

I'm not about to discuss religion, but I like the cross as a symbol and recently acquired this little ring from etsy (my favorite sweatshirt is probably this Actual Pain one I got last fall).

Giant steps are what you take
I'm sure many of you share the same utter jealousy as I that Alexa Chung got her feet in these moon shoes before the rest of us. She wore the "Atacoma" platforms on her show last week and they were stunners on her dainty little frame. The shoes are not yet up on Acne's online store, but I imagine they will be soon along with more from the epic fall line...MTV's Buzzworthy blog reveals they will be about $480. Start saving kiddies!!

Mademoiselle Yulia
I found out about Mademoiselle Yulia after seeing loads of pics of her on Japanese streetstyle sites. She's obviously a popular subject to photograph with her bright purple or blue hair and eclectic style. It's clear she's a devoted fan of out-there labels like Jeremy Scott and KTZ, and accessorizes nearly every outfit with her jewelry line Giza. Besides having awesome style, a fashion column in NYLON Japan and a Honeyee blog, Yulia comes through with the dancefloor bangers as a DJ and singer. Hey Trouble & Bass, you want to bring this girl to NYC? Pretty please??
