Every season I look forward to Cheap Monday, for the clothes obviously, but also because the team at CM always hits a homerun with the venue and soundtrack for their shows. This season's was no exception, held on location at a skatepark in Stockholm at night. The music was again perfect, especially the Terminator sample at 3:02.



I gotta remember to stalk these shades next season!

Peekaboo

I guess Jeremy Scott has a lot going on these days! He just wrapped up a crazy, ravetastic fashion show in New York for Fall 11, launched a collaboration with Swatch (with his face in Times Square above the store), and I just clicked over to Colette to see these INSANE shades he just put out with Linda Farrow. Club kids everywhere rejoice!

I was checking out some of the RAFW coverage when I stopped on these REDONK shades from the Fernando Frisoni show. OMFG to the fullest. Where can I get mine??

Shady lady

So I got my "color therapy" glasses in the mail over the weekend and put them on immediately as it was an unseasonably warm & sunny day in NY and I was feeling jazzy. I got the red and the green and so far I'm favoring the red and already considering a few more colors. Not that where I live is the least bit boring or anything, but it's a happier place seen tinted in skittles colors, let me tell you! Of course these are all nighttime indoor shots, go figure.

Yesterday I managed to make it to the site of the former Slow and Steady Wins the Race shop-in-shop at the 14th St Urban Outfitters thanks to a tip from Tiffany. What was left of the SSWTR range was all $10 (originally $100!) so I picked up a cute tote bag that zips halfway open, a coated linen t-shirt that I'm hacking since it didn't fit properly, and the LAST pair of SSWTR shades. Luckily they were the least awkward shape for my face, although if you've seen all the SSWTR sunglasses, none of them are what I would call "normal" silhouettes, but that's what makes them the dopeness.

Sun gods

Last year it was vampires, in 2010 it's sun gods. Karen Walker wins again, what can I say? For her 5th time showing her eyewear skills, Karen pays tribute to the sun gods with a 35-piece collection shot by NY-based photographer Derek Kettela. I can't wait to see these paired with her fall collection later this week. I think the angular styles look really fresh but if none of these are your steez, you gotta go see the rest!

Marks the spot

So I'm approaching my first trip of the year in a few weeks. I'll be going out to LA for the first time (I KNOW) and pretty stoked to see some of the shops I routinely stalk virtually. I'll be happy if I make it to just a few, hopefully including Creatures of Comfort. Their buyers have a great eye and every season they make my eyes light up like a Christmas tree. They just got in these Alexandra Cassaniti tortoise shades that absolutely nailed it and come with a sweet newsprint carrying case- there's other new stock from Cassaniti's Summer #4 range too so go take a peep.

You think you're so cool

I'm getting back on the ebay train, but I'm in the midst of moving into a new apartment, so Ikea will take priority over things of the "must-have" and "vintage" variety. Oh the pain- these original mirrored blue Jean Paul Gaultier sunnies are screaming my name all the way from the 80s.

Phantom lady

At first glance, Hussein Chalayan's collection looked too "sophisticated" for my taste, a 180º turn from his usual sci-fi experimentalism. But upon closer look, there's actually some really interesting details. It's refreshing seeing these big angled shades after all the round sunnies from the past few season. While the collection borrowed mostly from the 50s, Chalayan couldn't resist injecting some futuristic elements like the sun hat with built-in shades- bananas, but undeniably Chalayan.



The show took a turn for the surreal in the last few looks- a beautiful white blazer and long white gowns with ghost-like hands clutching the fabric at the shoulder or at the neck. I immediately thought of Garcons Fall '07 but Rei's hands were more 3D attachments, rather than integrated into the construction. Regardless of the originality of the idea, it was beautifully executed and added an unusual note that elevated the whole collection.

Just a spoonful of sugar

Woah, I'm seriously riding high on the color wave this week! I was on Minimarket's site earlier and was excited to see they've posted images of the Spring accessories already. It's all so bright and sugary sweet- Warhol reincarnated if you will. I absolutely adore the way they styled everything in the lookbook, especially those zig-zag shoes worn with bright salmon-colored socks. I'd like to see how the caps work with the hair worn down.

Hop to it

I can bookmark stuff all day and tag it with "wish list", but here's a realistic shopping list I hope to check off in its entirety that would make a nice fall outfit. The alice + olivia for Payless biker boots I gave a heads up about are now available, and I've always wanted some dope flip shades! It all looks and sounds ($$) good to me.

In your eyes

Oh what a weekend! It was THE warmest one we've had so far this year in NYC and everyone came out of the cracks to celebrate. I spent part of Saturday sitting in McCarren park with the rest of Williamsburg. I rocked my newly acquired stars & stripes hologram shades- I happen to be a big fan of holograms, so don't pull the irony card on me! The girl with the faux diamond bejeweled "ho fo sho" pimp cup that was sitting near us takes the cake.

Dark Night

Thanks to a tip from a friend, I made a rather long pitstop at Loehmann's after work last week. There were a lot of Jill Sander and Pierre Hardy shoes and racks of Helmut Lang that kind of overwhelmed me. I ended up leaving this time around with a pretty amazing black cocktail dress with scales all down the front (more on that another time) and these amazing Proenza Schouler shades that I got for ridiculously cheap. So stoked!! If you plan on making a trip to a Loehmann's in NYC, the one in Chelsea is pretty good.

Oh yeah, and the recent haircut....I'm quite happy with the results (so much so I had to test the "movement" factor).

Staring at the sun

Karen Walker makes some really great shades. Her spring collection called Celebrate Sun is no exception. The lookbook images were shot by Ny-based photographer Derek Kettela with the concept to induce even the most sun phobic (like vampires) to enjoy the rays in these heavy duty sunnies. My fave is this style below called the Derby available at LeeLeeLunettes.

Jenny Yuen

Jenny Yuen is a handbag designer based here in NYC that I've had the pleasure of meeting through my friend Susan, who art directs and designs her lookbook each season. Jenny's bags are stunning—especially in person, and reflect her love of both the arts and fashion. Her inspiration includes the glamorous vintage train-cases and suitcases of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. While exuding sophistication, her creations also have a whimsical element seen on some of the bags' playful motifs of silk-screened hand-drawn illustrations. For the fall, Susan and Jenny came up with a beautiful lookbook that fuses part Fiona Apple's "Criminal" with the narrative style of David Lynch shot in a sun-drenched classic hotel room. They also did a video to accompany the lookbook which includes beautiful timelapse views of the NYC skyline to help set the mood.

This collection is so sick!"It's about the speed in our lives and how it can only result in a crash," Chalayan explained, adding that the prints, which included number plates, car handles, and fenders, were "taken from pictures of car graves." The idea of speed was also manifested in the molded latex dresses that appeared to be frozen in aerodynamic motion. They reminded me a lot of some cycling helmets that are shaped similarly for aerodynamics. The color palette was very well thought out and those lense-less geometric shades were a pretty nice compliment to the futuristic fashions.

I dig the tabloid black bar/star trek vibe of these shades by Maison Martin Margiela.

These sunglasses are pretty crazy— in a good way though. Sunglasses like these are good to wear when you don't want people to take you too seriously. The clear ones would look cool in the winter with the ice and snow all around you. Bidding on both the clear and the black ones is only at $40 right now but there's under a day left so don't sleep.
