Sometimes you just gotta wear your heart on your sleeve...or your head...or your neck. You get the point.

People power

Regardless of your feelings on the character, Kanye can DRESS. Case in point, he rocked an Actual Pain cap front row at Jeremy Scott yesterday. TJ's got to be at least a little proud to have someone so influential repping his gear! The hat is sold out in their shop, but the pyramid graphic is available on several other products, including a tank which I own and plan on wearing out this summer.

Eyescream

I gotta say I can def be a fan of New Era hats on dudes- especially if they are a slick design, and the guy has good style without looking like he stares at his closet longer than I do. That being said, these caps genius London-based menswear designer Katie Eary did for New Era are pretty damn amazing.

caps available at CANDY

While we're on the topic of Katie Eary's mind-melting prints, I came across her t-shirts available on Asos, some which she designed exclusively for the site and are now on sale (plus free shipping worldwide right now!). Pretty crazy-licious right?

Don't look at me

Yep, I'm gonna be donning the granny visor this summer. I just picked up this one from a local shop in Brooklyn that sells TONS of costume jewelry and hats- you know the kind of place you can get every size of hoop earring and fake rhinestone hello kitty jewelry? I might even step it up casino/florida retiree style and pick up one of these visors from Starstyling Berlin.

You're not allowed to be unhappy

I loved this dreamy tropical print from Margiela's spring '10 collection...it especially looks delightful translated onto a bodysuit tank (yeah it actually snaps at the crotch, pretty cool).

I've been watching video tutorials on how to do a fishtail braid and hope to rock it in a slightly messy bedhead, hippy sort of style this summer.

God's Prey is back with their Fall '10 line, Psychik Cities, and it's a slightly darker direction than their last, but equal parts wearable and rocking. I'm pretty into this poncho jacket... I love the idea of creating this big silhouette to hide under.

I don't know what it is but I have a thing for hand shapes or prints in art or wearables, so naturally I love this painting by Matthew Feyld.

Jeremy Scott's modern stone age collection this season def. isn't for everyone, but you gotta admit his Flinstones' take on the leather motorcycle jacket is pretty rad. Colette has most of the range in store right now.

Erykah Badu has been busy promoting her new album this week (which I NEED to get asap). Here she is rocking the Ann-Sofie Back drip shades at a record release party last week in NY. I always loved her style and the OC blog has some more good snaps up showing how badass she is.

I could really get down with this handmade leather visor by 2 by Lyn & Tony... it'd be perfect for shielding the rays this summer! The Selby visited their home in Sydney last year to get the scoop behind this busy couple's life (they also run Karen mag).

To top it all off

Karen Walker SS09

Karen Walker makes some sick shades- hopefully you've picked up on that by now! But have you noticed the past few spring seasons her shows have also included some seriously adorable toppers for your head? The hats that made appearances on just a few of the white prairie dress looks in Spring '09 (above) were undoubtedly unique and awesome but the less exaggerated style of bucket hat Walker used in her 60s seaside Spring '10 collection (below) would get a lot more use I'm sure.

Karen Walker SS10

I've been on the lookout for this style of summery bucket hat for awhile now, and stoked to see the Walker hat available now at Creatures of Comfort. It's too bad I can't try it on in person since the store is on the west coast, but rumors that an NYC store could be in the works could change that by the end of the year!

Massive fluff

I don't quite "mesh" with the traditional associations with fur: you know glamorous, chic, etc, but I tend to be attracted to some seriously mad-looking fur (who would've guessed?). Two prime examples I came across this week: a girl in an oversized willy wonkified fur coat from Danish label Moonspoon Saloon and one of the most striking looks at the fall Margiela show featuring an exaggerated russian fur hat with extra long ear flaps. OBSESSED.

Winter crime

Ha HAAAA frigid cold-hearted painful NYC winter! You thought you had me beat but then I discovered this in the nick of time from the rad guys at Actual Pain:

Not only can this mask, excuse me, balaclava, block out the icy air, but Actual Pain gets bonus points for upping the creepy status with a cyclops eye and providing a shield of anonymity when I just want to walk down the street or ride my bike when it's 17º. I can't wait for this to arrive!!

Keep Watch

Thursday I went to support my friend Ellen and my buddies at Mishka for the 2010 Calender Release party that Ellen shot. I had to pull out my Mishka eyeball sweater that's always a big hit- they need to rerelease it!

Hats are fun and if I can stay committed to growing my hair out, I want to try out this look from Numero Tokyo's Feb. 2009 issue. The beautiful Milou Van Groese looks amazing in long messy braids.

For my noggin

Before it's cold enough for my ears to freeze off, I need some more hat options. I have my trusty black beanie but it gets boring wearing it all winter. I really love this rounded bucket hat by Ne-net but can't seem to find it or one like it anywhere. Any clues?

This faux-fur trapper hat is from GapKids and would provide just the right amount of warmth and sillyness. They make a size L/XL which I'm hoping is close to an Adult small (which would fit me) cause it's only $16.50.

Just a spoonful of sugar

Woah, I'm seriously riding high on the color wave this week! I was on Minimarket's site earlier and was excited to see they've posted images of the Spring accessories already. It's all so bright and sugary sweet- Warhol reincarnated if you will. I absolutely adore the way they styled everything in the lookbook, especially those zig-zag shoes worn with bright salmon-colored socks. I'd like to see how the caps work with the hair worn down.

Downtown, everything's waiting for you

The weather on Saturday was being crabby so thought it would be a good time to throw on my new hat. I never was much of a hat person, except for the obligatory beanie in the winter, but I saw this at Uniqlo and knew I needed it. It will come in handy for many a bad hair day! I'm trying to get better about getting "style shots" out and about, and thought the subway platform would be very NY of me, if not the all-black ensemble.

Lend me your ears

The Disneyland Resort in Paris is throwing a year-long bash and to kick it all off, they asked a handful of celebs and designers to customize a pair of ears. I wouldn't call myself a huge mickey mouse fan or anything, but man would I love to own one of these. They'll be auctioned off beginning May 5 and all proceeds go to a great cause you can read about here.

Billa shot a few of the raddest ones for SuperSuper 16. Leave it to Giles to turn Mickey into a badass mofo!

Take a stroll

On the other side of the hemisphere, Melbourne is underway with their 2009 fashion festivities. This look from Life With Bird's Fall 09 show pretty much rocks from head to toe. A lot of Australian labels have this modern beach-meets-street aesthetic I'm really into- I think plastic visors are going to make a comeback this year.

Vivid construction

I like these beanies from F21. It's a good way to infuse a little bit of color into an outfit of neutrals or black without overdoing it. And they are only $8.80!

It's raining ink

Between Refinery29's recent feature on fashionable head gear and Susie Bubble's many successful executions of the look, I've been on a casual hunt for a piece I can throw on my blonde head that fits my style (mainly meaning quirky and not too girly). Then I came across this shiny acrylic ink splat headpiece by Tatty Devine and thought "that's it!" Oversized accessories are my weakness, and the elastic band reassures me this thing probably won't move much if I wore it out dancing.

Plantlife

These hats from Huf are silly fresh. They remind me of Bernhard Willhelm's use of a cannabis print in his AW07 range.

Still Life NYC

Still Life NYC has to be my favorite hat shop ever. I went into their LES store the other day after continuous dreams of owning a top hat. I changed my mind after trying on every hat in the store and realizing I really needed the perfect summer jam! I ended up buying this beige Dumile parri bundle hat off the shelf. There is also a well preserved selection of vintage shades. Frenel, the owner, is always so helpful and personal. They can help you custom design your own hat start to finish. Still Life will also be opening its very own millinery factory located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Stopping in on the weekend and every season is a must!
